I am so seriously disillusioned with my HP2's potential longevity that I rang up about a new bike today.

I have confirmed I can have a G450X for the 20th of September, Talon have confirmed they can nail some 17" rims to the 450X hubs and return them in 7 days so all I need is a good sized front disk, space the standard 2 pot off, stiffen the suspension somewhat and I have a G450SM.

Yes I know I can have a KTM or Husaberg which are proven but I have done that and being quite honest I fancy something a little bit different.

So is this plan flawed? Any ideas on a disk that will fit?

Have you read a test of the bike yet, the plan maybe flawed for road riding

It'd make a good supermoto circuit bike though

Ovenpaa, can i have first dibs on any excess spare parts you have after the conversion, ie, 21/18 inch rims, discs, calipers, etc.

Thanks.

17-page review in this month's TBM. It's a pretty focused machine.

You complete b@stard, I hate you :tears:tears:tears

I reckon it'd make a brill' SM, it already has quite stiff suspension according to TBM and coupled with the long swing arm it should work a treat :bounce1

I've just come in from (unsucessfuly) sorting out the front end on my DRZ SM and am using (for now) the standard caliper on a Braking 320mm disc. It's spaced out using a Talon mount which actually replaces half your caliper (the plate with the pin sliders - have a look at my thread in the DRZ section for a piccie of it)) - maybe that could be an option for now coupled with a 320mm disc, which disc will fit though I don't know :nenau

Why not get Talon to make some hubs, then you can specify any disc you want as the hub will be made to fit plus you will still have your dirt wheels

I'm desperatly trying to remember (but can't) what I had on the CCM but keep thinking it was a Talon disk carrier with a floating Brembo disc :nenau

Have you asked Talon what they suggest, they are usually pretty helpful.

Great choice of bike - I'm very jealous :thumb2

Well you know where it will be Andres! :)

Talon tell me they do not do BWM hubs apart from some specials in the past for Dakar bikes but they were very helpful all the same. I ran a Beringer 6 pot on the 'Berg before and it would just be too much for the road on such a light thing so I was thinking of spacing the standard 2 pot off as the HP2 does and then upgrade to a 4 pot if needed, it is just the front disk that could be a problem as it looks like an odd ball.

PS - Don't forget you'll need to change the gearing :thumb2

Thinking about it, there must be some wheels (or Talon hubs) that will fit with just bespoke spacers being made up - after all, back in the 'old days' that's all we used to do ie find a wheel that roughly fitted and machine a bit off the hub and/or add spacers (RGV wheels used to be popular but, IMHO, look totaly wrong on a SM) :rob

It just seems a shame to have to trash the WBM dirt wheels.................

I am sure that I read somewhere , probably MCN so don't take it as fact , that BMW are probably going to produce an SM version fairly soon.

Makes sense as they will proably sell twice as many G450s if they do an SM version too. It would certainly help to make the bike more 'profitable' for them .

It was suggested today by BWM that they will release a SM pack for the 450, or at least it is well on the cards, I also agree it seems like a shame to trash a good set of enduro wheels and I am also considering the options of donor wheels if only to save the hassle of finding a disk.
