Try Wear Valley Diner between Toft Hill and Witton Le Wear on A 68.
They keep standard business hours but the view over the Wear valley and the trad Brit. grub makes up for it. You can see your bike in the car park if you worry about that kind of thing. Free newspapers if you want to depress your self.

I was out and about on the Tiger on Monday and called in here for lunch.

great place well worth a visit:thumb2

Nice, but even better the blue marlin (within the crazy golf course just along from minchelas cafe bike meeting point).
Very nice! (very expensive too F+C £4.70)

Mama Rosa's, Cullercoats

Not exactly a cafe or greasy spoon, more a lovely "Italian" restaurant.

As far as I know; Several catering college students passed their exams and struggled to find employment, so persuaded a bank to lend them some dosh and opened a restaurant.

I've been there half a dosen times now and the food is mint and the portions generous.
On my most recent visit we had the olive "nibbles", Funghi Trifolati - superb herby/garlic mushrooms .. and I had a Pizza Infernale....

Less than £25 a head including beers (Peroni) and 2 bokkles of red ...and tip.
