Faulty switches - water ingress

An indicator that refuses to cancel is potentially dangerous - not hard to remove the bulb/s and revert to hand signals if one has the tools handy BUT that is no reason to pretend that there is not a problem.

You spend £11,000 on a bike that you have to take the bulbs out of :eek::eek:

Yes, this was my first introduction to the "stop whining, you should have been able to fix it" school of BMW advice.

I do love my bike, but really can't stand the "holier than thou" self-righteous blather that a few people seem determined to come out with when anyone dares question why their BRAND NEW £11,000 BIKE HAS JUST BROKEN ON IT'S FIRST BLOODY TRIP!

Sorry, but that one is still annoying. Sitting by the road, in the rain, with my wife, who I had just persuaded to try biking, while waiting for the repair man to arrive still rankles, but not half as much as people telling me that the cause of this was not something worth complaining about.

Probably someone from that BMW Club place - from what of I have seen of some of them, their grip on reality is rather tenuous to say the least. Don't worry I here a rumour that they will soon be replaced by people who can remain awake for more than 45 minutes per day :D

<BR>Good find Engineer. :beerjug: These look like the same switches on the 1100 and 1150.

It appears to be one of these 3 parts. The last number is the actuation force.

Just took a butchers on the website and they look the same, so whos gonna order some and find out for sure ???

Could be a godsend at £3.37 each compared to buying an (expensive) entire handlebar switchgear from a dealers if the rubber boot fails.

If you go to the webpage and click on the icon at the end of the item description, it opens a .pdf of the switches technical info.

I will buy a few - might be able to get them directly from C&K - if not, I think that we have a Digi-Key account at work.

Here is the manufacturer's link again: http://www.ck-components.com/k12/key-switch,10469,en.html

I should have posted it here a couple of months ago - DOH! anyway I found that people had similar issues over the pond on the ADVrider site so posted it over there :http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=491834&page=2

Hope that I am not repeating myself due to a senior moment!

Hi

Can I resurrect this old thread looking for assistance. The left indicator switch just failed and as it's due it's MOT i'm kind of screwed. Basically it just won't come on no matter who many presses.

I took the housing apart and all seems fine, no perished rubber or faulty wires. Blasted it all with compressed air to no avail.

I bared some of the insulation on the switch wire and bridged the two wires, hey presto it worked. It's obviously just a dodgy button. Sadly BMW only sell the full switch assembly at a cost of £166 plus VAT. The button itself is all sealed with resin or similar so no way to service that.

Anybody know anyway of buying a replacement button, surely it can't be BMW specific, seems ridiculous to buy a whole switch for such a simple and easily replaced part.

A pic just to add some drama :)

Perhaps worth asking a specialist breakers such as Sherlocks/Motorworks if they have switchgear available ??

Does anyone have any of the C&K K12C switches spare, my RH nidicator switch is failing, and I'm struggling to find UK stock of the switch.
Thanks
