My, how time goes by...

Those dark dismal days in Abbottabad and then Islamabad when I was banging my head against a brick wall trying to get the 'bikes repatriated to Blighty, lonely days where no one seemed to care, a Muslim lady who wanted to show me the sights of Abbottabad, with no hidden agenda

I mean... Abbottabad of all places ... feck me :blast

All history... thank goodness!

A horrific taxi ride had got Sue to the airport at Islamabad and she flew home 'business class' courtesy of the Irvine Campbell repatriation insurance following her accident on the Karakorum Highway ... and away from it all.

The compound fracture of her right arm is taking time to mend. She now has a 'frozen shoulder' and calcification on the break area....

But the arm is mending, although much slower than the Queen of all eagerness and anticipation could ever expect, and the Atlas of the World is out again :thumb

Couple of video's here for those interested....
:beerjug:

Armed escort in to Quetta. We had hooked up with a couple of other bikers, Paul from Belgium and Andreas from Austria and stayed together for the last couple of days through Iran in to Pakistan. We are escorted in to Quetta. The guy in front with no helmet and flip flops has an AK47 (I think) but with one up the spout and the safety off. There is a pick up behind us with machine gun  Sue is on her Yamaha TTR250 :)

T'other video (Panasonic LMX-3) shows us at Persepolis. Sue explains that this is the tomb of Darius the Great but it's actually the tomb of Xerxes the Great. We later found Darius's tomb 7km away at Nagush E Rostam :thumb

Practically nine months after the accident on the Karakorum Highway and Sue (Gracie on here) is just out of the Northern General Hospital of Sheffield yesterday (Thursday 1st July)

Two surgeons had said there was nothing that could be done for Sue's shattered arm, it would mend of its own accord eventually, maybe in two or three years.

Well Sue's not the kind of gal to sit on her backside and wait. She's not in to crocheting or reading women's magazines, she's in to motorcycle travel. "We have so many roads..... so little time"

An independent specialist was 'kidnapped', thank you Avril (Avmac7) and Peter (Harleyquin) and Sue went in to hospital Wednesday 30th for a bone graft from the thigh area to the arm, plating and pinning. As it happens the bone graft wasn't required and Sue came out of the hospital with a titanium plate the full length of her humerus

She's on the mend at last :comfort

The TTR250 is ready and waiting :thumb

Now to save up for that South American trip ;)
:beerjug:

Good to hear Micky:thumb Hope Sue is feeling better and back in the saddle soon:bow

Plucky!

Good news guys! All the best for a speedy recovery :beerjug:
Had a nasty myself few years back, takes a while but, onwards ever onwards :aidan

That's great news, an accident like that in Central Asia is your worst nightmare.
Good for Sue and what a great attitude toward life you both have:clap

Speedy recovery for you guys!

An interesting coincidence, we had a nasty accident very near where you had on KKH, in Manshera just a couple of days ago. Another twat did exacly the same thing: U-turned without even checking who's coming first. Of course it was us who came at the same time, got hit, dragged and kissed the tarmac.

Anyways, left pannier is more or less fecked plus other minor things. Both front and rear subframes are bent on the bike. :blast

But somehow we are allright except for some bruises.

Ride safe mates,
Margus & Kariina

Thanks everyone :thumb

The last two posts from Tim and from Margus (and Kariina) special thanks ;)

Hope you get sorted Margus. We were about five miles out of Mansehra when it happened ... coincidence indeed eh! Talking to a couple of guys at the Pakistan Bikers Club (I jest not, Sue and myself have been made honorary members!) they would not ride that stretch of the KKH because it is renown for its danger

Ride safe all :thumb
:beerjug:

Good News!

Congratulations on your tough-minded pursuit of the medics and a successful conclusion Sue. For those of us still holding down a salaried role and the odd window of opportunity you guys are an inspiration.

Take care.

looks like such an amazing trip . . never mind doing a blog. . .such a trip should be turned in to a brysoness travel book - it would be unique in terms of going through pakistan and iran !

Many thanks :thumb

As it turned out old Bin Laden was shot in Abbotabad where we were holed up just before and after the accident

I have this conspiracy theory that if he had had us shot, for he would have been there the same time as us, then all hell and damnation would have broken loose on Abbotabad ... so he hired a hit man to take us out with the car ... plausible?

He didn't anticipate the man being caught by the police but when we asked the police to release him Bin Laden withdrew the contract ... plausible?

The hospital was atrocious so God knows what the prison would be like :(
