I hope by writing about my experiences I can assure everyone: you can do it! Such a trip may seem a big deal but once you have made the decision to go, you take every place, every person you meet, every obstacle, every day as they come and deal with them at the time - pretty much like in your normal life, really.
Nope, I'm heading to Portugal for a week's trail riding with Timpo & Co on Sunday.
