AA seems to have one for £71 does this sound about right ?

Thanks

whichever company you choose to use check that your covered for accident recovery, one of my mates dropped his sports bike and cracked an engine casing, the aa wanted over £100 to recover as it was not a breakdown:confused:to my knowledge only the rac offer full cover, but im sure someone will be along shortly to disagree:D:D:D

Which bit of your mate's 'crash' / 'accident' / 'simple drop' fits the description of a 'breakdown'? Bits got broken, yes. But only because he was unfortunate enough to drop / crash his motorcycle. Not because the engine blew up, cracking a casing as a result.

to my knowledge only the rac offer full cover

Not according to the RAC's policy displayed on the their website. It says quite the opposite and defines 'breakdown', too:

Definition of words

“Breakdown”

is where the Vehicle is inoperative and/or has ceased to function as a whole as a result of a mechanical or electric failure (but not as a result of a road traffic accident, fire, theft or act of vandalism). A component failure (e.g. air-conditioning failure) in itself does not constitute a Breakdown unless it causes the Vehicle to cease to function as a whole.

You can though call the RAC for assistance following an accident.... Though they will bill you.

If You call Us for assistance following an accident, fire, theft or act of vandalism or other incident covered by a policy of motor insurance, You will be liable to pay Us for the costs of removal. See ‘General Exclusions’ on page 14 of the terms and conditions for more details.

Page 14, point one:

General exclusions

1. RAC Membership does not cover:

– Vehicle Recovery following a road traffic accident, fire, theft, act of vandalism or any other incident covered by a policy of motor insurance.

However, if requested by You, RAC may arrange Recovery of Your Vehicle following a road traffic accident, fire, theft or act of vandalism but You will be liable for payment of the associated cost of such Recovery including specialist equipment charges if applicable, You may be able to make a claim against Your motor insurer for the cost of Us recovering Your Vehicle but this will be subject to the terms and conditions of Your motor insurance policy.

£38 multi vehicle, you and spouse.

It's a pay and claim policy, if you can afford to pay out and wait for claim then its the cheapest policy out there. Recommended by moneysavingexpert.

I had two claims in one weekend; car on the Saturday, stone in bike rad on the Sunday. Both claims paid out within 2 weeks.

And breakdown includes accident.

Used these last year, maybe it is the best option with multi vehicle then

i know its an old thread but....

i just got swinton full european breakdown cover,i chose personal cover so im covered for any veheicle im in/on,accident recovery included.i declined the home start option and onward to destination option so i just get recovered to home or a garage.first three months is free then its £10.40 a month by direct debit,i can cancel the policy anytime so i only pay for the length of cover that i want to.i arranged it over the phone and they seem able to tailor the cover to suit individual needs quite well.while i was there they did me a very cometetive quote for my bike insurance so that got sorted at the same time:thumb2

ADAC European Wide Cover €79

As I go on the continent frequently I am considering going over to ADAC, the German company. It seems to be a non profit for the mutual benefit of its members, and has become more and more popular with UK people. Apparently you have to either fax an application to them or telephone them in Germany and speak to one of there English speaking staff who will sort out your membership.

If you take out their plus scheme it would cover you and your spouse personally in or on any vehicle throughout Europe, plus anyone driving a vehicle registered to you! So for €79 per year it appears incredibly good value and the call centre in the UK is shared with the AA who they have a reciprocal arrangement with and generally attend within the UK. On the continent you can always access an English speaker via the call centres.

Apart from all documentation being in German I cannot see the downside they appear to get very good feedback from many car/camper/motor home forums.

Anyone here with personal knowledge. It appears to be incredible value compared to RAC / AA costs Vs level of cover.

superb, have used for ten years, no idiot on the phone telling you you're not covered for this or that, just ring who you want, pay the bill and claim back.

+1

Claimed twice. One was a +£500 recovery from Leeds.
No hassle at all and paid out on both occasions very quickly.

With the AA and RAC they want to bodge you up and get you going to save themselves the cost of a recovery.
So even if your gearbox has exploded they will send out a bloke in a van to see if he can mend it with a bit of string. And then finally they agree with what you told them on the phone 3 hours ago and call a recovery truck :blast

None of that BS with autoaid. You are in control, not some twat in a call centre who can only follow a script and is not allowed to call a recovery truck until you have sat there for hours waiting for the man in a van.

ADAC - Update

Hi

I realise that it is some time since this was last discussed but as the new season draws nearer and hopefully the weather starts to improve, minds will be wandering to taking the bikes onto the continent for some good motorcycling fun. I have now researched the ADAC deal and for a European wide cover package it seems to be the best out there with excellent reports all round. However, I realise that for many people the thought of calling a foreign country and trying to converse in an unfamiliar language may put many off and cause them to remain with what they have already, despite it costing so much more. I was the same until I came across this article in the link and decided to bite the bullet and make of fool of myself in German.

I phoned them, they spoke excellent English, were really pleased to hear from a UK resident, insisted that they call me back at their expense. I checked out the details and have signed up for the Partner Plus at €98.70 (£85 Appx). That is full cover for both the wife and I, whatever car or bike we are on wherever in Europe, plus cars registered to us are covered driven by anyone authorised to do so...... Ordinary 'Plus' covers the policyholder in the same way for €79.

By the time I had taken out Vehicle Rescue Direct (excellent company mind) Packages for the various bike and Car trips I would make this year to Europe, I will be better off, and I effectively get a full UK package (effectively provided by the AA) for free with even an 0800 number to call them in the UK :D

Hopefully the link has worked and you can look at it for yourself and decide on if it suits your circumstances, but for me it means one less thing to organise every time I wish to dust down the bike or car and head off across the channel. I know that I am already covered :thumb2

Plus you get full Worldwide Emergency Medical Repatriation Service for the whole family included, and reading reports this really is the best service you can get.......

I cannot stress how nice the girls in the office were to deal with, really pleasant and and keen to recruit UK members. If anyone does decide to join if you speak to Barbara Lorenz mention me, she is such a laugh ;)

I hope that this is of use to some on here - others I know have already joined up with them (they did ask me to get Barbara to phone them directly though - cowards) :augie

Plus 1 for ADAC, have renewed this year:thumb

Last i tried this I was told they wouldnt take me due to a partnering arrangement with the AA, glad its sorted now

Plus 1 for ADAC. What drives me to them at the end of the day is not the break-down cover, but the fact that they have the biggest fleet of special-fitted planes and helicopters for getting you home after an accident. Apparently they do the bulk load of flying those kind of flights anyway, so it made good sense to me.

Seems to have been a policy change at ADAC....you can no longer join over the phone at the numbers given in all the references above.

I was given the number of the head office in Munich, but I'm not sure my non-existent German will get me the same response reported thus far by bods dealing with the specific members of their staff at the number we had.

I have emailed Ms Moser-Wickles, one of the ADAC people reported as having been very helpful, for help, as yet no reply.

I am sure that she will return your e-mail and hopefully you can enlighten us with the new arrangements applicable.

Whilst I was on Tour in Germany this year Mrs H called me from the UK to tell me she was stranded with a puncture in the car. I told her to ring ADAC number and she did, no dramas, no fuss, perfect English (apart from they do not know of the Vauxhall brand name over here). The nice AA man turned up and sorted it all out within 30 mins :thumb2

Now the AA have invited me to renew this year - simple basic breakdown cover only, basic apart from the price £65  Let me think on this for a moment………………

Or instead £73 for Him/Her personal cover, all vehicles combinations Europewide - plus Worldwide medical repatriation for the whole family! :augie
