I saw that and thought that A) it’s crying out to be fettled and B) it was a bloomin bargain

Good luck on your mate, please keep us in the loop so to speak :beerjug:

My Strada 1000 was the replacement for the Mille GT..

Other than the rear end / grab rail / seat it looks the same..

What's the plan..?

If I remember correctly one of the features of the Mille GT was wire spoke wheels.

I didn't know that but, having read up on it, it would seem you've still got it :thumb They were originally made at the request of the German importer and so the 'series I' was made, a run of 250 parts bin special bikes. All were numbered apparently with a little plate on the grab rail.

Old Guzzis now are just silly money so it's really only the 'less loved' models that are sensible money now but even given that, yes you're right, it was a fair price :) It does look better in the picture though. It's all there and completely unmolested but everything is corroded to a lesser or greater extent.

The mate who's bought it reckons he'll give it a tidy and good going over then probably ride it 'as is' over next year while he decides what to do.............as long as he ditches that rear end though, my god it's hideous :D

It was indeed.

I think the major difference was the frame rails at the back flip up on yours but were dead flat on the Millie? Also early Millies had the smaller valve heads and carbs. The later series III has the medium valve heads and big carbs (like yours)

If I remember correctly one of the features of the Mille GT was wire spoke wheels.

Spokes were, IIRC, an option (or maybe the other way round with cast wheels being an option)?

Somewhere I've an original brochure but I'm buggered if I can find......... have a photo from the Big Twins book :thumb2

Been out this morning for a little bimble, 100mls. Surprisingly nimble for a fat lass. Flipping brilliant in the twisties, stick it in 4th blast to the next bend, back off, go round the bend, blast it to the next one, great fun and very sure footed in the wet. You have to make sure you're pointing in the direction you want to go after parking up. Big downside is, I have a gravel drive and turning it round and pushing it back into the garage takes every bit of my remaining strength.
Well, suppose I best go give her a wash now and wrestle her back to bed.

Apologies in advance if I’m teaching you to suck eggs etc- feel free to just ignore me

It’s always going to be difficult moving a bike around on gravel, but I hope that this helps getting your steed going.
I take advantage of the sticky out bits and when standing beside the bike, I don’t start the momentum with my arms but use my knee against the cylinder head or pannier dep upon which way you want to go.

It’s easier with Beemers as the carbs don’t get in the way so much.

Thanks for posting the pics, looks like you are going to have a lot of fun with your Guzzi

Nice. Just needs some Agostini exhausts !! Or does it have some ? Difficult to tell .

I do really like those, and they’re starting to become very affordable..........

This is 2013, 7.5k mls, 1 owner, serviced every year, Couple of really nice extras. Came with 2year warranty. very close to mint. New price for exactly the same bike, £17,999. I paid a fair bit less than half of that. Bargain IMHO.

I'm sure a bit of practice will help me develop a system. Mate of mine used to have this method of straddling the front wheel, both hands on the bars and push it where he wanted. I once tried it, it didn't end well.:blast.

After todays little ride, yes I think I am.

There was a2013 bike with 15k miles in a dealer for £8k the other day which I thought was a lot bike for the cash.Arsey took his all over France and he seemed to love it.I know his was the Audace though, but can’t imagine it to be that much different.
