The HUBB UK 2014 Overlanding event

Steve! What a bummer. :( Really sorry to hear this!! Was looking forward to you being with us again.

As for your room, I know that they are sold out so this is an opportunity for someone for sure. The rooms are very nice. This LINK will give views of some of the rooms. Pukka.

Nice find Paul. I know that a couple of guys are staying up in the hotels at the airport too - 5 mins (ish) ride away. Longer walk if they have had a few Real Ales though : (

When was the last time you changed your own tyres? Most people I ask that question of can’t remember. Why should they? I mean, buy new tyres and the garage puts ‘em on most of the time.

Of course when you hit the long road it’s a skill that’s very handy to have and there are tips that can change a chore into something a bit more run of the mill.

For years, Grant Johnson has been running training courses on tyre care, repair and changing, and this year we are lucky that he’s up for doing his session for us. If you don’t already change your own tyres, then you ought to get to this presentation. Hmmm, even if you do, you might learn something useful…

PS Just 55 days to go now :thumb

Hi Andy, great you can make it. You'll have seen the 2 day pass options? As for the presentation schedule, it's not normally finalised until a couple of weeks before kick off.

We are still getting approaches from presenters and Iain is keen to try to juggle everyone in. With over 150 sessions of presentations over the 4 days it's always hard to choose what to see. Keep an eye on the HUBB UK site and on the HUBB UK forum pages. The word will go out there.

Looking forward to seeing you :thumb2
PS one way or the other do make sure you book and pay before June 12th.

Graham Field has just posted on the HUBB UK thread on Horizons Unlimited. He's presenting at the HUBB UK this year. :thumb2 If you've not come across Graham before, he's the author of the very well thought of book 'In Search of Greener Grass'. He's a very nice bloke and completely down to earth. Anyway, this is what he has posted:

'I've got this public talking thing down now... well at least I don't shake as much as I used to. Last year I was supposed to do a webcam presentation live from Iraq but the connection went, so having composed a presentation in my head as I rode through Eastern Turkey I found myself with no one to tell my tales to.

This year I won't be relying on internet I'll be telling about the trip that lead the the new book Ureka that comes out in May. As well as Iraq and Turkey it covers The Cuacaus region and my new favourite country Georgia. Looking forward to telling why I loved that diverse country which is only the size of Ireland so much.'

A really good range of GSs at the HUBB UK last year and some of them had been fitted out quite uniquely. I really enjoyed looking at what people had done. This rig particularly caught my eye.

And I particularly like this shot taken by Ken Binns. Ken is going to be running a photography session and from what I hear from people last year it was excellent :thumby:

For those of you who didn't make it last year, here's a shot of the Author's and Film maker's marquee in the courtyard.

The sun trap of a court yard is surrounded by the red brick farm buildings, and is home to the outside sitting area for the bar, the area for the supported charity - this year its ShelterBox - and the HU Store for T-shirts and DVDs etc.

Last year we had 11 travel Authors and Film makers signed up to be with us. This year the sign ups are looking good already and 1 new book at least is going to be launched there. Ideal op to have a natter with the authors and film makers and to snag signed copies. :thumb2

Chuffed. :thumb2 We are all going to get the chance to meet one talented bloke at the HUBB UK. If you've not heard of Ollie Lloyd, look him up. A chap to watch methinks.

Some excellent news! But a bit of background first.

One of the things the HUBB UK has done since the very early days is to raise money for a charity. The charity has to be appropriate for overlanders; something we can all appreciate or connect with. Past charities supported have been for example, Motorcycle Outreach (MoR) and last year the Prostate Cancer charity. The latter one because well, most of you will know how badly this cancer hit Grant a couple of years back and of course, many people who come to the HUBB UK are in that dangerous age bracket.

Grant by the way is doing amazingly well and is looking forward to being with us all again this year.

So who is the charity this year? It’s an organisation called ShelterBox. These guy pack up emergency equipment for those people who have been hit by a disaster. It might be flood, a war, a Tsunami, and earthquake and so on. They work all over the world and are often one of the first agencies on the ground with their boxes of kit – tents, blankets, cooking equipment and so on. The basics you’d need to survive if you’d just lost everything! Many of us have travelled or will travel through the areas where they help. Have a look at the link to find out more. We aim to help them to ‘Put a lid on Disaster’.

Why am I posting all of this?

Because this year the charity raffle prizes are going to be huge! :):):)

Not only do all the exhibitors at the HUBB UK very kindly stump up raffle prizes but outside organisations are helping too. And they are doing so with some magic prizes. :thumb2:thumb2

Get this, the Adventure Bike Shop have stumped up a £500 tent! And Turcano Urbano have sent in 6 jackets, 3 pairs of gloves, a back protector, 4 pairs of shoulder armour and more. Amazing!!!

Have a look at the HUBB UK page to see who else is so kindly sending in raffle prizes. Brilliant! :clap

The Dover to Donnington Ride 18 June 2014

There's a fantastic opportunity this year to ride up to the HUBB UK event with Grant and Susan. This year they are attending all the European HUBB events courtesy of Touratech and there will be a group ride from Dover to Donnington to escort them to the UK event. The ride is on the Wednesday, to arrive for the start of the HUBB on Thursday.

If you fancy being part of this, check out the Facebook page for this event, mentioned in the poster below, for more information...

Great stuff! :thumby::thumby::thumby: Its a very rare chance to ride with this duo who have done so much for the world of overlanding. I'd love to know how many people's journeys have been that much better because of what they have set in motion.

And this ride? Grant and Susan live in Canada now so its not often that we see them here in the UK.
Yep, a rare opportunity. :beerjug: to July, Kate, Simon and Arun for making it happen. All of them are associated with the Moto Adventure Nights presentation evenings that are held in London each month. If you've not been to one yet...

A quick heads up!

Suzuki have just told us that they will be bringing bikes for you guys to test ride! Try something else? Why not. ;)

You do need to bring both parts of your licences though!

late arrival?

Hi

just wondering if there is a late night arrival cut off time?

not sure what time I will be able to arrive but don't want to arrive to find the camp sit gates closed or not able to get to the bar as the site registration/entrance is closed for the night, with everyone at the bar

:beerjug:
