Germany Calling.......Germany Calling

Thinking of the Eagle's Nest this year and came across this.

Great ride report and some more ideas to play around with :thumb2

If your thinking about visiting the Eagles Nest well worth checking the Kehlstein Webcam (www.bergfex.com) on the day of your visit , bit of a waste of time if the weather is poor at the top as you wil not get the benefit of the views

It's a fantastic area, but the weather can change quite quickly any time of year; we stopped in a guest house up in the mountains overlooking Berchtesgaden one year; not too far from the big lake Konigsee. The weather closed in really fast one evening; and we were treated to the most spectacular electric storm I have ever seen ; the whole guest house shook with the clap of thunder ; and the lightening split the sky. Don't know if it was a thunderbolt ; but something hit Berchtesgaden and caused a massive problem, we could see the blue lights running around in the town. If you go up to the nest; ýou can walk or I should say climb up; or you can take the big copper lift up; with the mad old German squeezing as many in as he can. Love the place; enjoy.:beerjug:

Thanks Polecat.
It was indeed a fantastic trip and the end of September seemed to be the perfect time to go.
Hope you enjoy your trip. :thumb

Great write-up. Really appreciate not only the photos, which were excellent but also the information in between. Thank you.

... and if you happen to follow Bigdave’s route via Bischofshofen to the eagle’s nest, you’ll pass by a castle high on a rock at Werfen (0.47 secs in the mk 2 video).

Schloss Hohen Werfen was the “Schloss Adler” in “Where Eagles Dare”. Now a falconry centre.

And pay a quick visit to the Biscofshofen ski jump hill (one of the four hills tournament locations).
