After selling the BMW XCountry, a few weeks ago..............this popped up, a Beta Alp 350cc

Heard lots about them, but never had much to do with them

They had a reputation for great trail bikes and awesome for LDT's

Beta are more famed for producing their fabulous range of competition Trials bikes - British champion won on one, this year and at most trials they are one of the most poular bikes out every weekend

It was mint with only 1100 pure road miles, over the last 10 years and Dazzer tipped me off about it Appleyards

Went over to see it and fell for it

It's got a Suzuki DR350 motor, with electric and kick with the Suzook carb and airbox, all wrapped in an Italian chassis

I last had a DR350 20 years ago and forget how good the motor is - 6 speed box and on 15/48 gearing will happily cruise at 65mph and spin up to 75-80 when asked

On the road the bike doesn't feel too small and handles well with great suspension/brakes

On the trails, it's not great for high speed - but sub 30 the suspension is great and it will literally climb anything. Very sure footed and nimble

I'm 6'1 and it felt fine to ride, not too small ~ same seat height as a BMW XCountry

Makes me wonder why we fall for taller enduro and trail bikes, for trailriding

Nice thing is the 350cc engine has plenty of grunt, in this package

Needs a bashplate and a few bits, but apart from that it's good to go, out of the box

I think I'll like this bike

JB,

I was thinking of getting one of these last year but got talked out of it and pointed to an AJP. I didn't get either and now regret having my head turned. I did ride the AJP Ultrapassar on some lanes and it was great, but I think I'll still get the Beta, maybe next year.

Glad you're enjoying it. Perhaps we can meet up for some gentle lanes and I can watch your bike in action.

Cheers chaps, been doing a few mods this week

Never had much to do with AJP

These have been around for a while & BETA probably make more Trials bikes than anyone else, so thought it was a better bet, especially with a Suzuki engine & ancillaries which are tried & tested

Quite welcome to come out, I know a lot of Lanes in Yorkshire

Bastard.....

Saw the title and thought it was for sale :D

I'd love one - got a 2006 Beta Rev3 200cc trials which is good (a better bike than I'm capable of riding)

Would this work, on CONVENTIONAL FORKS

http://www.kriega.com/products/Fork-Seal.html

I'm looking for some fork leg protection and have bought some boot gaitors, but not fitted as yet and requires a front end strip down

I then came across the Kriega seal guards (and it was a system I was thinking of home making already, with neoprene and velcro and the aid of a sewing machine)

It says USD forks only, but for the life of me can't see why it wouldn't work on normal forks?

Thoughts anyone?
