Another direction you should consider, that has made measured improvements on a lot of US bikes, is lambda-shifting the O2 sensor. Two approaches have been used. The Innovate Motorsports LC-1 and LC-2 (newer model) and the Nightrider AF-XIED for BMW. Both are a way to add a controlled amount of fuel and maintain full Motronic operation. The AF-XIED is a quick plug 'n play install. There's a long thread if you have reading time that shows the development, here: http://bmwsporttouring.com/ubbthrea...=showflat&Main=67207&Number=746671#Post746671.

And a shorter thread showing how I made a custom install of the Innovate LC-1 a few years back: http://bmwsporttouring.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=826502&page=1.

I've installed almost every type of product on my bike: LC-1, AF-XIED, BoosterPlug, PowerCommander, Techlusion EJK, Fuel Pressure increases and recently a custom Motronic replacement chip. Then I've measured and documented the tests in the above threads. What I have documented is that no matter which approach you take, if the stock O2 sensor remains connected, the Motronic ALWAYS returns fueling to stock settings.

I don't sell either product but I'm happy to answer any questions.

I'd really like to try an AF-XIED but the shipping cost + $220 is some serious money for something that might not do much. The reviews I've seen look ok, but can't find any that relate to a twin spark 1150.

Hi did 1800 miles straight after fitting last September and another 800 miles until now getting a true 50mpg and very smooth pick up in fith gear will pull cleanly from 30 without any sign of pinking

All my primary research was done on my twin spark. I have a manufacturing AF-XIED from Nightrider, for 1150s, that has a cosmetic defect. How about if we find a way to circulate that unit to a few trials in the UK.

The effect of lambda-shifting is reliably good and if your bike is in good order, and has a functioning O2 sensor, you will get a good results.

If the idea of circulating a trial unit works we should start another thread to get it going.

I'd be really interested as an alternative to changing the chip. I've tried the booster plug option on my previous GS but having read the threads I am leaning towards lamda shift as the best choice.
If you are happy to send it for trial I'm more than happy to offer my services, we need a uk distributor too.

Isn't that a bit like giving cocaine to your grandad? What's wrong with them as they are?:rob

Steve Mullen at Nightrider would have to decide on a UK distributor. I'm sending you a PM re: logistics for a trial and will start a thread.

Would that apply to John’s chip too - and also do you mean that any gain would be temporary before you were back to ‘normal’ performance i.e. prior to any product added?

I've got Johns Mk5 chip along with y piece,Remus and K&N filter. The difference is very worthwhile IMO.Much smoother, more torque and redlines very quickly.
