Just spent a fantastic 5 days riding the roads around Ronda Granada and the sierra nevada. Hired a F650 GS from Mark at BMWmotorhire. Cant recommend their service enough. Collected from our hotel by Lee and given some great riding suggestions by Mark. Quiet roads curving through moutainous passess all in 25 to 30 deg C
Defo coming back to this area, and attraction of a bike waiting rather than the long commute has real attraction to us

Steve

Hope you have come back and plotted all your routes into a GPX or Garmin file so us unlucky folks that just may be down there in a few weeks (6 days now and counting) can follow your tours.
If by any chance you have would you do us a favour and post um up here with any gret places to stop for accommodation or coffees etc.
Cheers if yer can

Yep, I second that. Off in early June for a lap of Spain. :beerjug:

Thanks for the interest gents , unfortunateley no GPX files as we did it old school with a map!
When i unpack later today I will dig ou the map and post routes for our Days riding. Steve

Following are the routes we did, all are very scenic and short runs , where practicable they were round trips as we based ourselves in an apartment in torremolinos (cause it was cheapest fly accom we could get with Jet 2). All roads were fully tarmacced no off roading this time.

And thebest thing !!!sometimes we rode for 15 mins without seeeing another car , and this was easter week. The San Pedro road is busy, but its the main route to Ronda.

1 nice short 60K run. From Malaga head north east crossing the A7 , you are looking for the A7000 yellow road to Colmenar, at Colmenar follow Riogordo on A7204 until Benarmargoza, turn right onto a white road to Cutar El Borge, get ready for lovely winding high roads. Follow signs for Almachar then Benagalboo then pick up the E15 back to Malaga

One of Marks specials .... Follow coast road appx 70K from Malaga heading east. At Almunicar get on the yellow road A4050 (takes some doing without a sat nav!) follow Otivar. This road climbs like the preverbial goat until La Cambra Montes when the jagged rocks are replaced by green national park for a stunning ride down to Padul.

We overnighted at Lanjaron , Hotel Andalucia , but 40 or so hotels in Lanjaron , famous for its water. Since it was Holy week we also had the priveledge of watching the Virgin Mary processions. The following day was the Alhambra.

Mark suggested a beutifull route through the sierra Nevada setting off from Lanjaron on the A348 following Orgiva Portugos eventually coming back along A348 Puerto Jubily , we ran out of time for this one.
Heading north from Malaga a nice day out is A7054 to Alora then head for Adales then upto Teba, where we collected the bike. From here a lovely route from teba as follows, head south to A367, turn right until you see the white road signed Serrato. , follow this stunning undulating road to El Burgo. . Turn right then and take a366 to Ronda.

Get around Ronda despite the road works and head north west on the 372 to Grazelma (lots spoke about the beauty of Grazelema elswhere on this forum by better seasoned travellers than us) . Have lunch in the sqare , menu the dia €9 for four courses and stunning food. Then as described by others the best road in the world! Take the small white road to Zahara, join the A2300 at Zahara and ride back to ronda. The road to Zahara is stunning , very precipitous , but in great condition and staggering views.

We then rode the San Pedro road backwards from Ronda back to Marbella.

Later in the week we rode the San Pedro road north to Ronda , the best way, great road , just watch out for the Aprillias and R 1 boys who will be all over you on the bends unless you nail it!

Food wise there is a small cafe or more accurateley 3 cafes all together about 10k from Ronda , we had great food there. Otherwise every small cafe we stopped in was brill, we didnt have a bad meal and with coffe co leche at €1 to 1.50 its good value.

Hope this small insight provides you with some inspiration for some days out.

Well done Steve. Very helpful. Also worth seeing is Zahara de la Sierra, not far from Ronda. Then onto Grazelema.

do you have a link to the bike hire company please?

I'm down in Malaga on boxing day for a week and looking to hire a bike for couple of days riding . Love the routes you have posted so will try and find them

Funny I emailed him the other week....twice, and got a fairly curt reply when asking abut possible bike drop off/pick up at Barcelona airport.
