Ok tell me about your Yamaha T Max experience

Had one for 2 weeks in Bali last year - if you are lanky like me and you turn the handle bars to quick you will hit your knees tbh it didn't give me the wow factor I was expecting - prev year in Bali I had a S Max 150cc and my Mrs said she much preferred it - she said it was more comfortable to sit on as a passenger

Fitted the GPS/phone mount with USB feed so I can use my phone for mapping .

Bloody pain to fit as the feed for the power was down low on the right side so the bike had to be stripped

Dropped mine off at my dealer for a service and to fit the heated grips GPS mount last week
Imagine my surprise to find it more or les completely disassembled / front off Panels off to do it
It took the dealer 2 days to do it , luckily as part of the deal when I bought it
I felt pretty sick when I saw it , looked like stolen / recovered All done now though I am told as I'm out in Vietnam . They gave me a burgman 400 while it was being done , amazing how different it was to the t max

That’s crazy !!

I followed the instructions and it took me 90 minutes to strip it but then I couldn’t get the fairing off as not sure which bolts to undo and not covered by instructions .So took it to dealer for them to do that bit and wire it up .Then built it back up myself.

I’m meant to be taking it to the S of France for a week at end of March but it’ll be hard not to take the new H2 SX if it pitches up and is run in in time !

Are you riding it down, or having it shipped? I'll be in Antibes myself for a week from 17 March 2018, come and have a beer if you are local.

Shipped ? Ha ha no chance !

Half the fun is riding down.
Staying in Castellane for five nights but will, definitely stop by in Antibes for lunch as usual .

Is there a way to keep the battery charged using an Optimate via the accessory socket in the cubby hole on the right ?

I've been away a fair bit and not used the Tmax and the battery was flat so I stuck it on charge. But the battery is behind the panel on the left and it doesn't seem to be designed to be removed on a regular basis.
I can probably fit a permanent lead like this

<a href='https://postimg.org/image/93dbm139f/' target='_blank'><img src='https://s13.postimg.org/93dbm139f/Screen_Shot_2018-02-14_at_11.04.33.png' border='0' alt='Screen_Shot_2018-02-14_at_11.04.33'/></a>

There's room to route it up through to the bars but it might look a bit messy,so using the so accessory socket would be a much neater option.

I tried plugging in my Optimate using the socket adaptor but it wouldn't take the charge.I assume the socket is only live when the ignition is on ?

Is there any way to make it permanently live, and if so would this charge the battery ?
It works on other bikes so there must be a way .

Finally fitted my Termignone Pipe + Givi screen . Blimey what a Pallava !! You need baby hands to fit the header springs yet the strength an a ox . 3 hours later and it was all back together . Sounds nicer than Stock , no faster still spins up faster than my old one . The screen looks better and is more effective than the small Puig screen I had fitted . Great bike even in todays snow !!

I fitted an optimate lead direct to the battery . Dropped the lead down the near side inside the bodywork and it emerges just to the side . You can then reach up inside and attach the charger , works for me . The battery is a faff to remove . I’ve wired up my Tom Tom direct to the battery as well and it works a treat, just have to remember to take it off when I stop as it will drain the battery

Interesting reading about the wiring woes, I wired my sat nav to the front running light as it was the nearest source of switched power. A simple piggy back connector and inline fuse, worked well for five years. Enjoy your trip.

To be honest there wasn't an issue with the wiring-just a bit daft that Yamaha don't include a spare point behind the clocks rather than having to strip the front to access the spur point down on the RHS.

It actually all comes apart and goes back together quite quickly, though I didn't fuck with taking off the final bit of fairing,as the instructions weren't clear enough and the dealer did it for £30 !!

Looking forward to the trip as always fancied a long trip on a big scoot.Just a shame that its a tad chilly in the S of F,but heyho-I've got heated grips and seat etc. (Plus a sexy pillion being collected from Nice Airport in a few days).

The plan to take the new K2 SX didn't come off as it's only just arrived on the island,so looking forward to that when I get back .

I did the same, wired the Optimate lead directly to the battery. However, I only plug it in a few times a year when away so I leave the lead inside the left hand side 'compartment'. One screw to access it so works for me. I gave up on GPS / phone leads and fixings. I use vocal navigation directions via BT to helmet and done. I also added the Tucano Urbano leg cover. Cheating I know but I can now ride it all year round... The DX is a great machine.

So, before today I’d only ridden my Tmax on Guernsey, so short journeys at low speed .
Time to see what it can do .
The route , St Malo-Lyon

Set off at 0730, arrived at 1800 including 2 fuel stops , 2 coffee stops and lunch . Rode 465 miles and all of it back roads except 40 on autoroute.

She’s a game girl !!

Heated grips to 3, heated seat to 2.
Screen about 3 inches down from max so I can see over it. But on autoroute, screen in highest setting and cruise set to 90mph.

Very comfy , good suspension and great handling .

Arse was fine until the last hour . Averaging 55 mpg and looking for fuel after 130/140 miles.

It’s not slow !! Pick up very impressive . Will sit all day at 90+ but runs out of puff at 110 ish, though still only 1100 miles on the clock .

Overall very impressed !!!
