Calling in at Ypres for just one night to see/hear the last post on my way back through France in two weeks time.

Can anyone recommend a biker friendly BnB or Hotel within strolling distance to the Menin gate etc..

Cheers.

Stayed here previously

Hotel Gasthof 't Zweerd

Right on the main Square and 2 mins from the gate.

Many thanks guys, very useful and very much appreciated.

There's a decent Novotel just round the corner from the Menin Gate , decent new hotel with a secure underground car park

Just to say a special thanks to Bryn.

We stayed in the hotel that you recommended and it was absolutely spot on, easy to find, secure garage parking, less than 5 mins from the Menin Gate, the main square, and the Flanders museum, a nice hotel at a great price.......Perfect!

We attended the last post ceremony which is held every night at 8pm at the Menin Gate...a very moving experience...not to be missed.

Thanks again Bryn, this is what forums are about.

What was its name? The link pulls up a list of hotels. Was it the 'Alliance'?

Yes .. Alliance.

Re. The affore mentioned Ariane...£141.00 for one night mid week bnb

Alliance..£68.00 for one night bnb

We always stay at The Ariane...http://www.ariane.be/en ....and have done for years. Very satisfactory.

Ditto.
Only ever stay at The Ariane if we're in Ypres now.

Just stayed there, too.

It’s got a large car park. Is it ‘secure’, some might ask? Well, it’s got a barrier but it was largely up and anyway, you could easily push a bike around it. It was though ‘secure’ enough to park two original E-types in it, along with some other very nice cars, with nobody worrying too much. The cars, along with two sparkingly clean UK registered HD’s, were still there in the morning. The riders were struggling with their Garmin GPS devices, which involved a lot of prodding at the screens with their gloves on.

Do they speak English? Yes, along with several other languages

Do they have a bar? Yes. It opens at 08:00 and closes at 00:01

Is there a good bar nearby? Yes. Straight across the road

Is it a good location for sites in the town and as a hub for riding out from? Yes

Is it easy to get to from Calais / the North Sea ports? Yes

Will anyone need to be told a route? Hopefully, no. Probably, yes

Rooms de Voerman just outside one of the main gates was superb bar below and secluded rear yard for parking.

Glad you enjoyed it...we always do. May not be the cheapest....who cares?

I got a bollocking from the nice receptacle lady years ago for booking via booking.com....she said its nearly always cheaper to book direct, and so it has proved.

Try a b&b called Carpe Diem, great place.

I stayed their last year with Den (had to share a bloody bed though) but it's a nice wee place, with a great breakfast. We parked our unchained bikes in the street opposite, and unsurprisingly, they were still their in the morning.
