I've recently upgraded the TomTom app on my phone to TomTom Go and it seems more difficult and counter intuitive to use than the old version. I'm watching this with interest ...
A better option for an ipad might be MyRoutes app, been using it for a while now and is a better planning tool.
If your ipad can 'see' your sat nav then you should be able to load routes(not knowing which sat nav you have.)

I have the 'My routes app' on my iPad, but again I can't seem to work out how to plan a route.
