What happened to the swingarm to gearbox pivot??

Hi Jaak
i did post a thread when I damaged the thread .. .. it stripped when I removed it.. despite the blowlamp being used..
no work in the garage tonight,,, I arrived home to find the gates open, my dinner ready, a tall glass thrust in my hand! and she's taken the dogs out..! so me working tonight wouldt go down very well.. i will take a picture of the repair tomorrow.
cheers for the interest.

To steal a line recently seen in the papers, while I'm fumbling with my flies, you're done and enjoying a post-coital cigarette.

Nice job, wish I'd thought of that!

Enjoying the posts ... Do tell how you got the headers so clean :thumb2:clap

This is why I use a "guide coat" the black bits show the areas that need a bit more sanding 😠

The "filler primer " has done it's job

I would like to do the same with the gearbox

But I am not confident I would be able to sand into the corners properly...that coupled with the fact I ain't building a show bike - where do you stop? And my poor fingers have had enough

thought of what? your project is coming along nicely

I had them soaking in acid for a while (left over from cleaning my tank) they came out nice and clean. the sensible thing would have been to put them in the shed with all the other cleaned bits.. But I suffer from not listening to my own good advice and ended up buffing them (I have a crappy bench mounted buffer) I wasn't looking for a mirror finish so didn't start with the "coarse" compound just used the "finishing" compound and have regretted it ever since.. I might re do them ..

Wish me luck. . I haven't used "wet on wet" primer before and as someone who paints infrequently like me putting a solvent rich paint on fresh primer causes me concern ... I have had lots of disasters with base coat in the past.. think paint stripper!

Evidence of corrosion still visible. . But I am pleased. .. if not thrilled to get it better it would have had to be dismantled. .

I think that looks great, bearing in mind that this is not the fuel tank paint finish etc, these parts will also be well protected from further corrosion. Also most of the detail in these photos will also be barely visible when its all reasembled. Thanks for sharing, great post

Thanks Stuart. . That's what I kept telling myself when the "voices " were telling me to prime and sand once more. .

Not much progress today (life got in the way ) just tidying up and cleaning my painting spray gear
Hopefully I will remember how these came off

I didn't like the aluminium big foot thingy so I welded a bit of chequer plate on before blasting and painting

Now I am wishing it had been a new piece. .gloss black shoes every imperfection. . In my defence I had meant to zink it and powder coat..but things didn't work out

Normally I wouldn't put a used clutch back in.. but. . I dont envisage doing huge miles.. my bike is undoubtedly worth more as a box of shiny bits than it will be when its assembled and I could really do with cutting back on spending on it !!does anyone know what thickness the plate was when it was new.. I seem to remember from the paperwork it had a clutch at about 25k which was about 25k ago.. I guess that kinda answers my question
