Got home in 1 piece today. After approx 1,750 miles in 12 days.
Will hopefully pop a few pics on here sometime soon. Usual stuff like steak, beer, etc.
Suffice to say it was generally brill. From quiet countryside to maxxing out on the autobahn. Having to lean in to a motorway curve made me chuckle. And I met my first 100mph white van man.
Scorching at 30+ down to 7.5 degrees. Rain on 2 days only.
9 nights in Germany, hotels were 3x 2 nights and 3x 1 night. From very nice to Fawlty Towers. Mostly via booking dot com.
Main highlights were:
Overloon WW2 tank & truck museum with stuff I'd never heard of before.
Nurburgring circuit where I was melting and passed on the 250 EU joy ride in the Porsche passenger seat.
Hockenheim classic bike race meeting with some super examples.
Sinsheim Technik museum where I had Concorde to myself.
Mercedes museum.
Plus some fantastic roads at or near both Cochem and Baden-Baden.
Much of the above thanks to hints and tips from this parish.
My Zumo 660 generally played ball. Occasionally had a hissy fit and suggested I exit a perfectly good road.
I must update my Netherlands maps as things went a bit AWOL there. Luckily I have a good sense of direction and knew where I was going.
After thinking about it once or twice after missing the opportunity, I got into the habit of re-running a stretch of road that was particularly fantastic
Fuel consumption was anything up to 60+ depending on the roads and traffic.
Maximum Warp Factor was Zumo 213 kph (a glance at dash showed 137)
On the B500 I was flashed by a strange green post on the wrong side of the road. Not sure if anyone will track me down. I was surprised as I was not speeding as the sign had just changed from 50 to 70 and I was picking up the pace gently.
DFDS ferry out of North Shields ran smoothly on a flat calm N Sea both ways.
