Do I need SLI insurance?

I'm renting a bike in April for 11 days and 3000 miles around California and Nevada. The rental company says the rental includes the state mandatory SLI insurance (insurance against bodily injury and property damage to a third party), but for another $7 per day I can increase the SLI significantly.

Does anyone feel this SLI is a "must have", or maybe it's a total waste of money?

I would be more concerned about collision damage waiver insurance.

IIRC US insurance with hire vehicles only covers you for the very basic requirement to meet the laws. Anything over and above needs to be paid for and in the event of a crash without CDW you will be paying up a fair sum !

Thanks Redrick.

I think we have LDW/CDW covered as we went for :

"Optional Plan C:$15 more rental day/bike. covers theft and damage to the bike with a
deductible of $1000.00, Flat Tire included"

So I think we're only liable for a worst-case $1000 for the bike itself.
