From having a google around, this appears a common problem, so i will order a new gasket and the 4 bolt washers. Question is, (likely a stupid one) the bike is running slightly rough on acceleration through 3-4k RPM when cold and backfiring a hell of a lot on deceleration (with flames) Could a leak in the cam cover gasket cause any of the above or is the cam cover entirely separate to the sealed side of the engine even when a valve is open?

Im going to remove the cold air intake system (thing) whilst the tank is off. You can get a blanking kit. It should help with the deceleration pops and bangs.

The 2 are not related.

Removing the SAS should help the popping and banging - also check the exhaust system has no leaks and is sealing properly ;)

An oil leak from a Triumph......now there's a thing.......:augie

(I'm just being a tw@....I like those Scramblers....:thumb2)....

Fitted a new gasket and new washers, torqued it to spec and its leaking again :blast

Just ordered some Wellseal which was recommended. Hopefully that will seal it for good! It was nice not to have the smell of burnt oil after a ride for a day...
