Hi we are looking at a move from an fjr to a gs. crucial is Sue's comfort as a pillion for obvious reasons - she isn't a fan of wind buffeting and everything gets compared to the r1150rt that i had which is her benchmark (sadly)

would anyone Bristol or Bath way be prepared to give Sue a 30 mins or so trip around the block on a GS? If you have an adventure or large screen to give it the best chance of succeeding then all the better

ta v much

just go an blag urself a test ride at the stealers mate, that's what I did:thumby:

Sounds good advice. That way you both get to test it and get a feel for it.

As said get a dealer test ride of at least 2 hours so you can see if you both like the bike. Better still test a GS and a GSA!

Never had a problem with that, I buy bikes to use 2 up so I test them 2 up

So do I, hence I was rather pissed off when I had booked a test ride with Douglas Park Motorrad, telling them I will be 2 up and then them refusing to allow it. It wont be a surprise that I never bought the bike from them

Apparently all to do with the dealers insurance, as they don't cover pillion passengers. Simple problem to get round if you have a policy of your own.
Or stash the suited and booted old-lady around the corner from the dealer.

Touche.

Have to agree though, it's becoming a common problem & I think we can all understand the dilema from both points of view. Risk assessments are all part of modern life & giving a pillion ride to anyone you don't know well inevitably presents a few 'issues' for any responsible rider.

I remember well, an old dealer chum of mine talking about the contraints he was under & the need for waivers to be signed, albeit of questionable value in law. He had just had a couple tip off & break their legs under the falling demo bike only a couple of miles down the road from his shop. When the return of the bike was well overdue, he was getting pretty anxious, until another customer told him there had been a crash locally. He jumped in the van & arrived to find his bike wrecked & the couple being loaded up destination A&E. Apparently similar accidents had happened over the period of a few years, so his Insurers toughened up their terms, doubled the demo excess & moved to exclude pillions from the equation. A shame, but that's how it is. Often not applied for manufacturers/Importers road show events, when combined with Bike Safe escorts.

thanks guys - dealer allowed us to ride a GSA - "getting a test ride on a used bike is difficult" was the initial response. Anyway after some chatting and him checking with the powers that be, we were allowed to test ride a GSA two up which went amazingly well - god they are comfortable. an eye opener as I expected us to ride it, say nah, and go looking for a RT. Lucky dealer - collecting the bike next week.
