K1200RS - buying advice

Hi all,

Looking at a K1200RS, 2001, 25k ish miles. ABS has been removed 'professionally' apparently ...

Not much in the way of history - any thoughts on what I should look out for ? Planning a first look at the weekend but not particularly mechanically minded, but am taking a mate who knows a bit !

Don't mind spending a bit to get it right, but don't want to end up with a money pit either.

Possibly too late an answer..... they are pretty bulletproof bikes but also quite staid and dull dynamically.

I had a GT for a few years in the past. Very comfy at motorway trips.

Only main model specific issue was some coolant pipe joints that were plastic and cracking with time. Replacement metal clips were issued but many bikes were not retrofitted apparently. And electric grip heaters going wrong.

Other usual drive leaks etc are common of the era in all models.
