Just looking for bit of advice on what to expect from insurance companies. Got knocked off on the M62 lady decided to change lanes without looking. Luckily heavy traffic so only doing about 30-40 mph. Broken scapula in few places and hand. Anyway thoughts on the bike please. Loads of cosmetic damage main costly items are the final drive scraped and appears rear frame has moved slightly as the paint on he pillion foot peg has lifted and split. Do they have to replace all items for new no matter how small the damage?

I had a small off, not my fault. Took it to Jeffries for evaluation and they listed pretty much anything that had a mark on it that was attributable to the accident.
So on that basis in your situation, new final drive, new rear subframe, new engine bars etc.
I would take it to a main dealer for assessment but be aware that some insurance cos look at damage to frame as write-off fodder......hopefully not in your case

Priced up the parts myself that are damaged in someway no matter how small

Air cooler, rear muffler, fork leg, luggage grid, front fairing panels, hand protectors, windshield, indicators, engine bars, rear frame, final drive, vario top case, clutch/brake levers, foot rests, rear cast wheel.

Comes to over £9000. Amazed by that figure. I'm going to assume will be written off as it's a 2012 probably worth about £7500

A great deal depends on who the insurer is , using new parts even just the cost of replacing the final drive, rear subframe ,engine bars etc will probably lead to most writing the bike off.

If you have suffered non blameworthy personal injuries get in touch with a recommended motorcycle claims specialist as your bike insurer will not neccessarily fight to get you the compensation you are entitled to.

Cheers for replies, yes none fault, believe she is being prosecuted for driving with out due care. Get Legal cover through work so will get them to sort out personal injury side of things.

Isn't it roughly two thirds the vehicles trade value a write off as a ball park figure?

Yes, will write off, not worth the outlay to put back on the road. if its 9K in parts, factor another 1.5k for labour

Offer of about 5K settlement

Bike to a breaker, who will punt it out as a CDR for about 3.5-5k season dependant.

ive seen them write off a 3 year old bike with a dinged tank and and rim.

Best bet is a buy back and SH parts

mart

I offered a 3rd parties insurance co after there policy holder wiped me out 12% based on there offer for the salvage, accepting there offer was only agreeable on myself being able to keep the salvage.

April this year i got knocked off my 2010, 30th anniversary which had 56000 miles on it, used daily through all weathers, was cosmetically challenged, got £7700 from 3rd party insurance, first offer, didn't argue.
They Wanted £3500 to buy back salvage, not worth it in my opinion as needed new front wheel forks and plastics as minimum.
Just for your info when they give you a price.

The insurance company get up to 30% of the mid book value of your bike fr the salvage. Do the sums it's a write off. You can buy the salvage but they will ask for more than 30% so you know what to negotiate down to.

Only your insurance company can write bike off. What you are entitled to is to have 3rd party insurer's return it back to condition prior to accident. This could cost them £100 or £10,000 doesn't matter which.

Although, you can hire replacement transport it is often more hassle than it is worth, also get a specialist motorcycle solicitors to represent you.

My 1200 GSA was a Cat D write off, mainly due to "bent rear subframe", which I really found hard to believe as the basis for writing off the bike. I bought the write off from the insurance company, fitted a new subframe plus various second-hand minor parts, MOt'd it and sold it (openly as a Cat D) at a reasonable profit.

Don't be at all surprised to find your bike a write-off....

Too much stuff is written off when to be fair rebuilding it using a combination of new and used refurbished parts would be cheap enough.

A used straight rear subframe powdercoated is surely better than a poorly painted BMW original !

Go online and get lots of proof of replacement value so you can argue with the thieving bastard insurance company when they write it off and offer you peanuts. Print out for sale ads, like for like for yours. Good luck and I hope you heal ok

Again thanks for all replies I'm taking everything in, bikes now with Williams bikes Manchester, wasn't happy with insurance company's approved repairer 4th dimension loads of bad reviews online, not that I believe it will be getting repaired. Feel better knowing it's with them though.
