2018 KTM 790 Adventure

Did you identify the correct part to fit a sat nav ?

Yes just looking at it now funnily enough, it mounts on the 4 handlebar bolts very disappointing apparently ignore the one above the TFT that sez mount Sat nav here

part no 64112992033 basically its shite

I saw underneath the part marked GPS, it like that the small plastic square is a blanking plate. When removed there are the screw / holes that held the blank in place .

If you go back to OP reply 741 you can see it fitted under Nav

Yup,much better for me,especially standing on the pegs as I'm quite tall.

I was going to move them to the forward of the 3 positions but the thread is a bit dodgy so will get the dealer to sort at first service.

Don’t think you have the tallest onesIMG_1342.jpg

Dunno. Mine were from the accessories list for the 790 and are a direct replacement for the OE ones. I prefer them in black . Are yours Rox ?

They are KTM 52 mm when you order the taller ones they are only available in silver moved to the front position as you said big difference

790R v 1290R ?

Having ridden my 1290R all over Europe and having now done only a couple of hundred miles on the 790R,some early thoughts on the differences.
Obviously purely my own feelings/opinions.

Riding Position/Comfort-pretty similar. 1290R seat height is 890mm, 790R is 880.I had dual Ergo heated seats on my 1290R and have the standard seat on 790R but with bar risers fitted on both.
I've not ridden a 1290 for a while as sold mine last year, but from memory I would say that there's little in it.The 790R has more adjustability in the bars and I think is a tad more fitting for my 6''1 frame with 34" inside leg.
Not sure how comfy the 790 seat will be on a long day out though.
The screens are similar in size and I prefer a small screen. And I think the big, lower splayed tank on the 790 will give surprisingly good weather protection.
Fuel range-I used to get 250 miles to empty on the 1290 with 23 litre tank. Expecting 300+ on the 790 with 20 litre tank based on the economy I had with 790 Duke.
Power- Ha ha,where do you start-it's individual but one of the reasons I sold the 1290 was that I preferred the ATAS and the 790 is similar.
For me, 160 ish bhp in an adventure is just too much.It upsets the balance and becomes the overwhelming feature. The 790R with around 100bhp is still extremely rapid but it suits the bike and doesn't become the defining feature. The motor is an utter gem.Much better fuelling than on the 1290.
Handling/low speed control-The 1290R is a heavy beast when full.Dry weight of 217kgs so fill it up and it's around 236kgs.The 790R is 189kgs dry so about 205 with fuel BUT that 30ish kgs deficit feels like double because the c of g on the 790 is so much lower, with the fuel being carried down by the engine. You certainly know about it when the 1290 is full to the brim but it makes little difference on the 790 whether its full or on fumes-the balance and lack of weight when moving around is extraordinary. And the tank is so narrow at the top,it's like riding an EXC 790 !
It tips into corners so much easier than the 1290. Might be the tyres-Pirelli Rally STRs (790) re Conti TA2s (1290) but I think it’s more the better balance on the smaller bike .
Suspension feels more refined on the 790.There's about 20mm more travel but it does seem to ride bumps and ruts better.
Other thoughts ?
Long distance travel should be similar on both, what with similar riding positions, cruise, etc.Better range on the 790 but better seat comfort on the 1290.
The 790 is not a two-up bike and the bigger 1290 will be a better bet if you aren't allowed out without da missus.
The design brief for the 790 was to have a bike that could be ridden a good distance onroad like a 1290 yet behave more like the 690 Enduro once the tarmac ends.
I've yet to ride more than a few local tracks offroad but I reckon they've got it about spot on.

As a 1290 owner would agree with most of that which is why it’s going the seat is an easy fix with the bar risers spot on now it’s a quick little thing still surprisingly a little bit lumpy at low revs ,clutch is a little bit energetic low speed handling is exceptional as Arsey says even with a full tank,I never touched the suspension on the 701 but feel you have to spend time getting this one right definitely could see a 790!super moto on 17 “ rims and sticky tyres now there’s a thought

Great picture of the 1290 Arsey, where was that taken?

If anybody is looking to fit the Baggage Carrier, there seems to be a slight issue.

This is the part :

fd0bacfc5b712bcb92a52c5e0d4dd300.jpg

You also need this part :

7bab3b2539c11ede6fd44344d42ae3f8.jpg

So, that plate above replaces the original item,as shown on my bike here.I’ve overlayed the original plate above the new one in the first pic :

429c997858e24ec5231c99ffdb7c7f6c.jpg

9fa06328ccda1f381edf8420319f9dee.jpg

BUT the Baggage Carrier with the part number listed above that came to me is subtly different to the one shown in the picture alongside it,as there are extra holes to line up with the Top Case Carrier :
338fbed3fa30cf5d7efa8c053bc43823.jpg

(The one shown is same as fits 1290 as that needs nuts and bolts whereas the plate for 790 has thread in the plate so only need bolts)

BUT BUT whoever altered the design to fit the Top Case Carrier got the hole dimensions wrong and then didn’t include any bolts !!

The carrier holes are all 6mm :

4da42408869ee03eeda98fd709391204.jpg

But the top case carrier holes are 8mm :

5d896402834e641218245861a401ec91.jpg

So it looks like the Baggage Carrier has been adapted with extra holes from that part used on 1290 etc to fit the new Top case Carrier on the 790 but using 6mm instead of 8mm holes,so obviously won’t fit.

My dealer is chasing it with KTM.

The simple fix is to drill out the 4 holes from 6 to 8mm then get some round headed bolts to attach the two but I’ll see what KTM say first.

Did you get anywhere with this
