Realistically what's the cost for a second hand Sportster engine..... any ideas? Budget wise?

From a bit of casual looking I'd say £2-2.5 is the going rate; plus shipping. Not that I've been looking or anything like that ...

From my time on Britchopper forum 6-700 ish for a early 4 speed 883 although I've seen 1200's go for around a grand. That was a year (ish) ago and there not thick on the ground at that price but did pop up now and again.

Err...give us more of a chance.....what year? Is it as a replacement, or a repair job.... I may have the odd few spares if you have one that needs a re-build....

I reckon he's gonna be building himself a funky liddle hipster bobber..................

..........until the next great idea pops into his head.

This is a long term "potential" project

Dave Degans does a "Rolling Chassis" Norton Featherbed kit for £3,500 all in - they can supply mounting brackets for a Sportster engine ( I'll need a complete unit, running preferably) lets say £1500 - so for £5k I have the knockings of a great long term project

http://dresda.co.uk/parts.asp?filter=rolling

Or, the cheaper option is to buy one of these kits https://www.caferacerkits.co.uk/news/2016/10/23/crk-triumph-cafe-racer for 2k and a Triumph Sprint (Available for around a grand) so - £3k plus paint and services required for the Triumph or £5k plus paint and services for the Norley........

The Triumph is the much cheaper option - may cut my teeth on one of those, then build a Norley.....

Nice project. The Dresda bike looks good, although incomplete. Didn't the Ace Cafe get some sort of Norley customised to their spec? ........ or did they stick with the HD frame.

How do you isolate the vibes though - surely a 1200 sportster engine in a featherbed replica frame would rattle your fillings at tickover.

Keep us posted .................. KEN

Someone on this forum was into "Nor-ley"s .... Rob Farmer? Shep ?

This project reminds me of the 'Goodman'...25 years ish ago....

The air filter and 'pipes needed sorting, but it wasn't far off (IMHO).....

The pipes look fine to me - 2 to 1 Supertrapp stainless steel; same as I have on my softail custom.

Best customised Sportsters I've seen belonged to a pal, Slasher, from NI!
