Hi can anyone recommend any routes they may have undertaken from Calais to Switzerland?
There will be 3 of us on the monday morning eurotunnel, gets us into Calais around 9.30 am euro time.
My plan was to head down and have an overnight stop somewhere in between Calais and Interlaken where we will be based from the Tuesday evening until the Friday morning. Don't mind motorway for an early push to eat the miles , but be nice to have some A type roads in afternoon.
Ardennes area? Voseges? Military interest always good?
Not wanting anyone to set me a planned route or the like , but some help would be much appreciated as never been over that side of France and Switzerland before.
Thanks Baz.

Which passes ? if you check on www.tcs.ch and click on Vehkehrslage on the top line it shows pass status (green open , black closed ) ....the main ones near Interlaken ie Susten/grimsel and Furka are all shut unti late spring

Take the northern route (No tolls). A25 - Lille, E42 - Mons & Namur, Then A4 (E411) towards Lux. Jump off anywhere after Namur for more interesting roads.

Verdun and Saint-Avold cemeteries not that far off south of the route

Yes, get down to the northern end of the Black Forest/Vosges using the free primary routes, some of which has good scenery. Nice ride then through scenic roads. I can highly recommend the Panoramastrasse or Glaubenbielen_Pass as an excellent way to aoid the Swiss motorway to land up at Giswil, just a few miles north of interlaken https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glaubenbielen_Pass

We did this trip last year, including the B500 in Southern Germany.
This was out first Hotel. https://www.booking.com/hotel/be/la...4AQioAgM;sid=664617d16764f224961feecee4f3af39

Nothing there but the hotel. Run by a mother and daughter who were brilliant hosts. Food was fantastic as was the company.

This was our second hotel stop for two night while we did the five passes. https://www.booking.com/hotel/ch/re...4AQioAgM;sid=664617d16764f224961feecee4f3af39

More info if you need it................. Good luck.

Have a look at the RiDE route:

By twiddling it around a bit between their outward and return routes to bring yourself to Interlaken you'd do OK.

Thanks , I actually looked at this before posting some good information :beerjug:

Having done a similar route I would say that 10 hours is optimistic. I would avoid Belgium as long as I could and get the first bit done on the motorway...otherwise you are going to have a very long day once you have factored in fuel stops and a bite to eat.....more like 13 hours.

Piece of advice .. buy lunch and water in France before you go into Switzerland !

An ordinary street cafe in montigny was €11 for a bottle of water.

Looks like Co op and supermarket's for us then , I'm a jock ...lol
