I'm away from home at the moment so I have no access to my Nav V paperwork (purchased May 2015)... My question is based on the info given to me today that the ROI now has post codes for all properties. I know perhaps I should have known anyway :) So, can the Nav V take the ROI post codes for direction finding and if not is there an update which I can source?

As far as I know the new postcodes for Ireland do not work in GPS yet. But if you have a house number and street it's all good. I tend to use the gps to get me to the street and then ask if its not on gps.

Thanks for your replies thus far guys. Not looking good for the help of my Nav V then :( Wish I'd booked some less remote accommodation now lol.

You could find the premises on google maps or mapsource, create a waypoint, then download the waypoint to your GPS, or get the gps coords and enter them manually in the GPS. What's the address, or hotel website? I can have a look tomorrow, if you wish.

As with many things we appear to have approached the post code issue obliquely - An Post appear not to need codes & are of the view that the widespread use of these codes would selectively advantage its competitors?
If you have time & care https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Postal_addresses_in_the_Republic_of_Ireland gives background.
I'm V92 P2RP but it is not evident on any of the bills that drop through the letterbox.

Seriously! There is a thing called google maps?

You can use it to prepare for the trip as in set Sat nav to nearest road junction

and then you can print off the last bit that is making you nervous

And if that fails Us natives are usually friendly!! And do speak english (Well except if you end up in a Gaeltacht!)

Have fun quit worrying and enjoy Its Beautiful over here !

I've copied the post into the Irish section, as there will probably be more bods there who'll know about GPS devices and their use with the new postcodes.

Ah, that reminds me ... there are two sets of "competing" posts codes in ROI; Loc8 and eircode. Eircode is the govt sponsored and publically paid for system. A bit like Betamax and VHS, many people claim Loc8 is the better system though Eircode is becoming more established. Potential for confusion abounds.
I presumed the OP is referrring to Eircode.

loc8 died on its arse as far as i know

find it in google maps click it and the little grey roundy thing happens with a gps location

A more eloquent response than mine, Eircode actually view Google Maps as competitors!

Thanks guys... I have 14 different hotels booked and it looks like I'm going down the coordinates route :)

Loc8, in the second link that Wapping posted works, and is supported by some Garmin devices. Probably not the Nav V though.

You can use eircode on google maps now. Just type the code into the search bar.
