Thread update -

One of my headlamp LED's has failed on one side ;)

Ironically it's the main beam unit, where one side of the LED array no longer lights up.

Trawling the bay shows the original type that most of us purchased - see below

Same thing i think ?

Are no longer available -

Most now have either a fan inbuilt into the heatsink, or use a totally different design of heatsink

I decided to see if i could get some of the original type, or as close too as possible ...

Finaly after going through a;most 50 pages of ebay listings i spotted these -

they looked close in terms, of heatsink size, but they dont come with an added electronics box..

They arrived today, i havent had time to fit them, but the picture gives an indication of size

looking at it, i wonder if the original back cover may fit??

I'll update on fitting and brightness, hopefully tommorow night

Well it's in, and the jurys out so to speak

Its certainly smaller, but the original rear cover isnt going on, no biggy, but where its smaller it means more of the back of the lamp unit is open

to the elements

Fitment wise its not brilliant compared to the old unit.

To fit these, you remove the locking collar and lock that into the lamp unit via the spring clips

then you insert the bulb and rotate a quarter turn.

thats the easy bit, once in and done the lamp is slightly loose due to no fixing between the locking collar and bulb unit.

it wont fall out, bu if you pull the plug to hard you can move the position of the bulb.. (its only full beam so not used much)

Light wise its the same as the low beam old type, so lets see how it fares on a road trip ;)
