In August myself & a friend have a week to get from just south of Munich to Spielberg for the Austrian MotoGP
But we want to visit Auschwitz-Birkenau, a round trip of about 1600km, so I'm looking for recommendations of places to visit - car / bike museums and particularly WW2 / Cold War sites. Twisty / scenic roads would also be of interest.

What have ya got ?

if you have a garmin I can send you some twisty routes along German Alpinestrase, up through Austria and Czech Republic finishing up around Chemnitz.

Appreciate the offer Pablo1 but I've done the Alpenstrasse before plus I didn't want to go that far north ;)

I'm doing a similar trip (a week to tour before the Austrian MotoGP). I'm going to head down to the Black Sea (because it's there and I haven't seen it) via Slovenia, Croatia, B & H, Serbia, Bulgaria (just), Romania (a couple of passes), Hungary, Slovakia, Poland (Zakopane), Czech Republic, Germany, GP race.
Let's hope we all have a great time and enjoy the racing! I went last year and had a great time. Are you camping?

Jaysus Khulu, you're gonna be a busy boy !

Aidan did a write up of our trip to Georgia & back a couple of years ago. Trip started & finished in Romania so it & Bulgaria feature at the beginning & end of the RR

Are you mad ?? :augie
No, my camping days are over. Now the most important thing in the evenings is access to a toilet without getting thorns in my foot :blush

Me too! I did the Timmelsjoch and Grossglockner in rain last year so am hoping for dry and sunny this year.

I'll read up on there.

I camped in the large red field last year - mental. I'm going to camp in a smaller blue zone this year. Party in the beer tent at the fan village was brilliant though - going to do it again this year. All the hotels get booked up immediately it's hard to get somewhere. I take it you're staying in Graz, or similar?
I missed out the bit that I'm going along the N260 (Pyrenees) and a load of Dolomite passes before heading to the black sea. :beerjug::beerjug::thumb:thumb

Our last trip to Krakow headed down to Garmisch, across to Berchtesgaden (Eagles nest- well worth a visit)

A Stop over in Svaty Jur ( North of Bratislava) then up to Krakow for a couple of nights ( Hotel Royal right in the centre- recommended) The trip up to Krakow was good- Slovak traffic was light if I remember correctly

Then across to Prague, then Colditz and home :thumb

Eagles nest sounds a good idea!

Pension Alpina Berchtesgaden is where we stayed.... ...only thing to remember is that you have to take a coach to get to the Eagles Nest....and the last one is something like 1500.. We only just made it. :thumb2

That could be tight for me as I hope to be going there from Zakopane, Poland. I recce the pension as I'll be looking for accommodation there. Many thanks.

Khulu,
That's a proper trip ! How long you going for ?

I've done the Grossglockner three times on a bike - once the weather was pure sh1te, once it was just cold & wet and the last time my final drive shat itself. I think I'll stay away for a while...
I've nothing booked for MGP, not even tickets. As you saw we're doing the AlpenButt beforehand so we may or may not get there.

If you're staying in Berchtesgaden this place makes a nice change from the usual Bavarian pig products - https://www.facebook.com/KurzACurry/
And Dokumentation Obersalzberg museum, behind the bus station for Eagle's Nest is worth a visit - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dokumentationszentrum_Obersalzberg#External_links

Bryn,
Thanks for that. Some food for thought there :thumb

Thanks for the tips I'll check them out. Enjoy the Alpenbutt. Hopefully, 23 days on the road (inc. the MotoGP) I reckon (all being well). I can't wait! :thumb:thumb
