Scotland Tour May/June 2017

Whatever route you take and wherever you stay I am sure you will love it .. only been twice .. it's a LONG way from down here on the south coast... The Western Highlands is just a brilliant place to go and I have to say even as a softy southern shandy drinker those Scottish chaps are very friendly :D

Are we fuck :D

West coast accommodation books up early in the smaller towns. If you are camping no issue, but if you fancy B&B then pre book.

Steve

exactly , esp at bank holiday times .

We've got the same problem in reverse. When I go touring Europe I waste, at least, a long day in both directions between home and the south coast!

It's amazing what's out there:

For a couple of quid: https://www.secret-scotland.com/scotland_tours-3-to-5-days.html

For free: https://www.visitscotland.com/see-do/itineraries/

Just because this bid went by car doesn't mean he's wrong, I guess: http://www.justtravelous.com/en/2014/10/scotland-beginners-tour-car/

Anyone could build a holiday to suit themselves out of that lot, mixing in a bit of Booking.com / TripAdvisor to find 'Great places to stay' and using the pre-made Curves / RiDE routes. If that is they can be bothered.

That sounds good to me. Thanks Khulu!

Carbost Inn - the pub with accommodation near Talisker. I've stayed / eaten / drunk there before and it's fine and good value for money.

Indeed, and you don't even need to get a paper map out nowadays as much stuff interacts with google maps (But I do like a good old fashioned map)

Kind of you to share this info amongst us bids...

Clear of the A9? Why?

Speed cameras are not a problem really, but the roadworks are as they upgrade to dual c/way. There is always the old A9 which runs paralell for a fair way, but that corridor is probably best avoided by going via Fort William or Braemar.

Don't be fooled into thinking you've got to the top at Skye/Fort William....there is an awful lot, including the best bits, further north. Skye's OK'ish, and I can see why its on everyones list, but there are far nicer parts to ride through. I would avoid it myself in June, and keep going north.

A distillery is just a factory with bagpipe music and tartan clad bints. Waste of good motorcycling time....just buy the product at Tesco's! Or spend a few moments browsing the stock in The Green Welly at Tyndrum....the only good reason to stop here...the foods shite.

The journey from Fort William to Ullapool, via Spean Bridge , Invergarry, Lochcarron, Kinlochewe, Gairloch is a good day out and then north from Ullapool is one of the best riding roads there is.

Lots of the fun is in the plinning:D

I must tell Eddie and Fiona that next time I'm in! I like their Cullen Skink!

Agreed to both of these comments! :beerjug::beerjug:

OK point taken...maybe time for a re-assessment of the culinary prospects of the Green Welly....I usually go to the Real Food Cafe over the road...an excuse for a tour to the west!

You need to be a site subscriber to send PM's at a cost of £12 a year. It's cheap for the quality of holiday you'll receive.

Agreed. I stumped up £12, bought my GS from the For Sale section far cheaper than eblog....and i've been hooked since. I've got £12 set aside to pay for the renewal as soon as it lands! Top site, top info, top banter. Love it!
