Front and rear disc lock recommendations.

As a monster chain isn't really practical when travelling (16kg+) I'm thinking of investing in a disc lock for the front and rear of the bike.

I have an oxford chain already so looking to complement and deter the thieving scumbags who seen to be targeting gsa's currently.

Would be nice if one of them made a load noise and not fussed if I need a different one for front and back.

So what are the best ones around for front and rear?

For me, I still take a chain, pinch pin and lock. Heavy yes but cant beat chaining it to something solid. I have just fitted a Road Loc on the front. Expensive but much more convenient. Swapped this from an ABUS - bloody thing kept going off!

+1 for the Road Loc, fitted one last year for a trip to Slovakia. Works well and is really made well..
 
Are there official U.K. Distributors for these? I shall be going to states later in a year but it is still 8 months away....

Do a search on here, there was a big thread last year with all the details, including email of UK contact.

Alternatively PM Nutty as he removed a Roadlok off his XR a couple of weeks ago (it will fit an LC) and he may be selling it!

I bought the 'web' version but you can buy the older model which is cheaper. It has a thicker rubberised shell over the main body

Read the blurb on resistance to attack time, strength & chemical attack etc. It has a high insurance rating.

Never tried it on the rear actually.

If there's enough exposed space on the disc can't see why not. Will try it out tomorrow morning and let you know.

I use a xena alarmed disc lock, it's really well made, and makes a 100 odd decibel screeching noise when activated.

If you put it on the highest point of the disc, it is more sensitive then if you put on the lowest point, which is more than enough for me.

Hi Mike, I have just read your post with the reference to the ABUS , Have you tried putting it on the very bottom of the disc?
I found that my xena was really sensitive if I put it on the top, but was just right on the bottom of the disc.
 
I've used a disc type lock for years and years, but I wish that someone had suggested earlier that I place it behind the calliper rather than in front of it.

Yes I reckon that you will ride off with it still on, even if it is only once in ten years. The change in position means you only move 12" or so compared to nearly 3 feet. The difference in damage to bike and pride is huge.

Ive got the tee shirt and never would have believed it :eek:

I sold that the day after we removed it!:D
 
i have the abus granit 77 as well but it isn't recognised on the insurance cos applications. that is mce and previously e bike. a good lock.
