My local BMW dealer has warned me against wiring my TomTom Rider 410 to the gps socket on my F800GS. Apparently something in the TomTom system wakes up the Can-bus system again after it has been switched off, resulting in a flat battery and other problems.

Has anyone here had experience with this? How have you wired up your TomTom?

Not aware of the problem, but could it be avoided by connecting the GPS to a relay that is switched by the GPS Socket instead of into the socket directly?

Wire it to your headlamp, then it'll switch on and off with the ignition
