1290 GT

I wouldn't want to be selling one S/H just now, or even an almost new S1000XR, R or MT10 just now - as a few folk will be looking at the KTM bargain.

When there gone there gone .

Have you posted about your mods anywhere?.....interested in what you've done.
SDR fron fender?
What frame guard?
Is that a carbone exhaust shield?....from?
Screen brand?
Carbon wheels??....drool.....defo outside my budget!!

Nice large photo please! ;-)

It would appear so, but it seems odd that it’s not mentioned anywhere. You’d have thought they’d market it more, as it’s quite a big change.

The bikes at the Nec did not have the led and apart from colours are identical, apart from the black the other colour looks marmite.

Surely Ktm realise they are not big sellers throughout Europe, so increasing the price ain't going to pull punters in, unless there updating the 2018 bikes before release otherwise I expect these will be discounted end of nxt year to similar money as the promotional bikes.

I’d been persuading myself that going back to an in-line 4 was a good idea and that the MT10 Tourer was an even better one but the price difference and the fact that I like KTMs soon changed that.

40t rear sprox is a great mod, don't bother doing the front sprox, waist of time, I tried and it was too much.

Extended Hugger was from Germany £250 ish but a different supplier, if you intend to use the bike in anything but sunshine than the stock hugger is shite .

I've wrapped the whole bike in ventureshield, a must do is the front indicators/corner lights there prone to stone chips and cost £270 each if you hole one, you can just see the out line of the ventureshield film .

I moved the horn from behind the rad, it's muffled and once they get hot they used to pack up, never a problem now .

It's not a garage queen, I use it, (spain twice / Germany) but not in today's weather (ice n snow) but I've got a little OCD so its stunning, I look after my stuff so theres not a mark on it.

I've done several other mods, making 10 - 15mm spacers to bring the toe pegs out so its easier to foot the gear and rear brake levers, changing out bolts for titanium and replacing all the fairing fasteners with pro-bolt stuff.

I've not had one issue and have no regrets paying retail price it was worth it at the time.

Any exhaust end can off a SDR will fit, I won a brand new Akro on eBay, it was listed for a SDR and at the time it was much cheaper than anything being listed for a GT !

Wow, thanks for taking the time to post so much detail, appreciated (sorry but you may end up with a PM from me with some questions!). And.....WOW!!....your bike wants for nothing! OCD with the care and cleaning......I suffer from that pretty bad also! Lol

Hi Andy, looks like you’ve followed the same path as me, defected from a Multistrada, an SMT, now a GT, though I’ve gone back to a 1290S Adventure now

Yes it is, but I have a great little mod if you don't want to spend ££

If your using a ram ball mount this will work perfect, where the OE sat nav bolts into the tube behind the clocks remove the bolt and the top cap, now instead of using the OE sat nav get a ram mount as below and cut it down so the bolt passes through the top hole, it fits perfect.

The tank range reading is somewhat strange, it reads in Kilometres stating full tank 330 even tho it's set in miles, this issue was the same across a lot of the Ktm range, but it's never been a problem and I've had 240 miles to a tank on one occasion.

I'm a lightweight and stock seat is a pain after 200 miles, I take the pressure of my arse by applying pressure on the pegs with my toes and have managed a splash n dash of 600 miles, so the ergo seats are a must, i do have these but never used because they increase height and I'm already on my tip toes.

Screen makes no difference to myself what ever position and leave it in the low position as I find there's no buffeting.

Heated grips are great, with hand-guards on max there too hot, I've got the grips set in favourites so one press of the up arrow activates them, otherwise your pissing around going through various screens

The self cancel indicators are a pain as they cancel after 10 secs, way too early specially when negotiating roundabouts or pulling out of junctions and the indi has cancelled, I had the auto cancel turned off, the tech agreed with myself after he nearly got knocked off !

Cruise on the right takes some getting used to, you can rotate the switch gear on the bars slightly and I have and it allows me to thumb the cruise slightly easier but you never get fully used to it not after having it on the left like the bm stuff.

Panniers are a strange shape and depending on your size will limited what you can get in them, being small means I'm ok for a 2 week trip but I wear shorts, the lids warp, well mine have and I've just had brand new panniers under warranty, even tho they warped slightly they never let water in and I wasn't bothered tbh but mentioned to the dealer and Ktm replaced.

To use 6th gear happily you need to be doing at least 80 mph because of the tall gearing so this is why 40t sprox helps.

I've run a pair of GT tyres and 2 sets of m7rr, the GT's I could not fault em the M7rr Seem to track every road imperfection and I had the rear brake loose on a hot day in Spain so not my favourite tyre, I've got a pair of 01's to try nxt.

It's a missile once the revs start to climb and loves to overtake and feels rock solid lent over, the torque is so addictive however it can easily get you into a lot of trouble fast.

Enjoy

I don't think it has the cornering lights in the headlight; scroll down this page and it shows the ones integrated with the indicators.

Can't figure it out but one of the pictures look like there's no key ignition, mine is clearly visible but the one in the picture isn't .

I’ll pop into Premier at some point in the next few weeks, so will see what they say.

So what do we know for sure about the 2018 bike so far.

Confirmed?
Two new colours.
Orange wheels on the orange bike.
New headlight.

Not confirmed?
Cornering lamps in headlight or in indicator strips.
Cruise on left or right.
TFT dash. Doubtful.

Doesn’t really matter what it’s got at the moment. If it’s £5000 more than the pre registered bikes we probably won’t see many for some time.

You could always keep the one you've got Nick, its a good one, had one my self last year with even less miles (sold it though ;)

Smt is a cracking bike, I too had one and mine was proper sorted and mint however come sale time I couldn't shift it, they have a niche market.

.......I got lucky, post on my SMT FB page "anyone know of a nice SMT...." and a few days later deal done :D

One of these might work also...

RAM-B-272.jpg

....there's a massive range of RAM fittings: https://www.ram-mount.co.uk/

Something I haven't noticed....is there a power socket somewhere in/near the dash area? I modified my Garmin cradle power lead to plug straight into the dash power socket on the SMT, would be handy to be able to use as is...
