Folks

We are thinking of going over to the village for a weeks walking in May. Does the village itself come recommended, the surrounding area looks good ?
Any tips or advice about the area at all please.?

Many thanks

There ain't a lot in Corofin !
Other than the road out :D

The surrounding area, particularly the Burren, is stunning with lots of great walks
Bofey Quinn's pub does a great chowder & very passable pub grub. Other than that I can't help you...

That's good for starters.
Appreciated.
Ps do you know if there's a supermarket/grocers in the village ( we will be self catering) ?

The surrounding area is good - Dysert O'Dea castle (a bit to the South) really worth a visit - the inside tour is interesting.
Village itself a bit quiet but perhaps that suits you? http://visitcorofin.com/
Personally I'd nudge you to Ballyvaughan or Ennistimon - more variety @ night.

If visiting the cliffs skip the crowd @ the visitors centre & go to Hag's head (to South)- a walk is necessary but really worth it.
Get a copy of Tim Robinson's Folding Landscapes Burren map (work of art)
Don't forget Fr Ted's house - not far from Corrofin (a bit to the North)
Skip Lisdoonvarna - apart from that anywhere in Burren in fine weather is like heaven.

There is. A couple of doors down from Bofey's.
Even has an ATM although it wasn't working last time I was there :blast

There's a Lidl in both Gort & Ennis, one of which you'll be passing through on your way in, and might be worth stocking up there

Plenty of shops in Ennistymon, including an Aldi in the works, Gort has Aldi & Lidl.
The surrounding area is superb & please get a copy of Tim Robinson's Folding Landscapes Burren map.
Lisdoonvarna do go for Wild Honey Inn and the Curtin's Smokehouse and further on to Fanore and Blackhead.
Goatburgers in Carron, haha.
Europe's largest Stalactite is in Doolin, the harbours has the Ferries to the Aran Islands
Further away are the Slieve Aughty Hills with the Shannon and nice spots along it.
Another trip I like is from Corofin to Inagh, Connolly, Kilmaley, Creegh, Doonbeg, Kilkee, along the coast to Bridges of Rossand to Loop Head.
Cheers Josey

That's brilliant guys. Thanks for your help. Looking forward to it already

Bofey Quinn's used to be a good spot for a lock in. Haven't been there in a good while though.

Further to queries re Corofin village etc, another question for you guys (and it may appear daft !!) We will be travelling from Stranraer/Belfast ferry etc down through to Eire . . . . . . . .Will we need our passports ?

No, a driving licence with photo will suffice. The likelihood of being asked to show your licence or any form of ID is very slim. Certainly the ferry company won't ask for it at all.

If you tell us where you are heading for initially we can suggest interesting routes for you too. :thumb2

Thanks all. We are welcome to any ideas really. We will split our time between walking (in The Burren) and days out on the bike. Fire away folks

Avoid Doolin cave, it is a shambles. The ailwee cave further North is excellent.

In addition to all the good suggestions above: If in Corofin a visit to and few hours wandering around Ennis is always nice. I would also suggest a spin around Loop head, a visit to the Light House and maybe be a coffee at the Diamond Rocks in Kilkee...and don't forget The Donald's Hotel in Doonbeg!!!
