thinking of acquiring a 2009 K1300GT SE with almost 50K miles, looks very clean and has been well maintained. What should I be looking out for?I haven't seen the service history in person yet. Thanks

Glasses.....they are an ugly bike

Moving on and trying to be helpful .....

I had a K1300GT SE - a great bike, fast and not too heavy (unlike the K1600 which replaced it). However I did have a couple of issues

1. Battery. For some reason when hot the bike was on occasions reluctant to start. I replaced the battery and always used a battery monitor but there was a lot of chat on forums about the battery leads needing to be replaced as the originals were not sturdy enough. I called out the BMW Recovery service on two occasions when it wouldn't start

2. Corrosion - on two occasions the rear drive housing was replaced under warranty by BMW due to corrosion. No arguments from BMW

3. Front wheel bearing - the front wheel bearing on my bike collapsed whilst I was on tour in Germany (grateful to have had the BMW Extended Warranty). I'm not sure if it was a one off or a more widespread issue with the bikes. It wasn't repaired under warranty despite me asking

All of that said, I loved the bike and only parted with it as the mileage crept up

ps - I don't think they are ugly!

Thanks for that I have had both a K16gt and more recently a K13s both low mileage. Just wondering is there something that stick out around the 50 k mileage mark. Thanks for the comments above

I'd get it from a dealer if you can or at least with a full list of BMW dealer stamps in the book. Front ball joints tend to go around 30-40K and also look out for recalls ok the timing chain guard, rear wheel crown bearing and stalling issue. Have a good look at the rear shock as well - the spring is often badly corroded as it's difficult to clean without taking off the exhaust and rear wheel. Also the bottom linkage can go, giving poor tracking at the rear. Swingarm bearings can give up he ghost too

thanks for that, it is coming from an independent bmw specialist guy.

I have to admire your brand loyalty but I would look at the big Kawasaki or the FJ1300 as well + the Triumph.
I did 25k miles on my K1200GT and Sean has the 1200 as well.
Not much difference between the 1200 and 1300.
The K1200GT was fast and handled.
Hated the gearchange and proved impossible to sell.
Good for a genuine 155.

1200 GSA now gone and this was part of the transaction. full history excellent nick, need to make it more comfortable, I think I found the k1300s more comfortable!! must figure out how to mount a GPS, excellent MPG, I love the FJR particularly the most recent version I will keep it for a little while maybe and see if I can trade it with an unfashionable XTZ1200ZE

Seen it in Bray this morning.........looks well.

Do you also have a Tenere ??

Should have given me a shout. No I don't have the Super Tenere but I am interested in getting one. Had one last year on a tour (ZA, NAM) mixed surface and i was impressed.

I was just dropping some parts into Mark.

He has a great set up now in there.
There is a super 9 month old Suzuki Vstrom in there, fully kitted out for travel, priced very well........... would be a great bike for someone.
