Swapping a topbox between an 800 gs and 1200 GS

Hi,

I have a 2012 1200 GS - all loaded with full BMW Vario panniers and topbox.

I have now just added a 2016 800 GS to the garage.

I know the panniers are not transferrable.

What is the deal with the top box? Anyone know if I can use the topbox from the 1200 on the 800? The BMW dealers says its a no, no, as different plates.

I have seen pics to the contrary, but cannot really find the info I'm looking for.

Anyone done it? What did you need?

The only thing I did notice in the pics, is that the plate on the 800 has a whole in the top, that looks like a pin from the topbox would slot into.

Wow, just done a slightly different forum search and found a great thread from V8LEGEND - looks like I could be in business.

I have both bikes and the appropriate top box for each. The top boxes are interchangeable.
