Canon Video camera on firewire

I have a canon XH-A1 Video camera. I'm having a few issues when trying to transfer the video to a computer.

Computer is running windows XP Media version.

Windows Movie maker isn't recognising the camera so I downloaded WinDV.

Windv recognises the camera as a "Windows Av/C Tape Subunit Device" but when I click the capture button it pops up a "WinDV Can't fin DV Output Pin or Camcorder" message

Any Ideas?

I had this with my old video recorder but was fortunate that I could use the old mono plugs red white and yellow then into a converter lead with USB and sound jack to computer. Don't know if your video camera also has this option?

I think the problem is going from old analogue to digital format? These adapters turn it into one of the newer digital formats?

Does it have a SD card that you can record to and then just put the card in your 'puter?

I've sorted it it was a setting buried in the menu that allowed remote control from the computer.
