Bloody Battery Again!

After spending a wonderful evening fitting my new lights, and ensuring they worked.

using them for no more than 10 mins operation on high beam

Rolled the bike out this morning, prodded the starter button, and all i got was a clunk

Tried again, and the same... FFS


Grabbed the jump battery and hooked it up, gave it 30 sec, and pressed the tit.

Span straight into life.

Ran it to work, all seems ok, although the idle did have a bit of a flutter when i stopped

It was a cold night, with temps near on freezing , so yes that could be a factor.


But..


Brand new battery - 3 months ago, not top of the range, but nevertheless new

Starter has been stripped / cleaned and brushes ok

Additional +ve to battery direct

Additional -ve to battery direct


No other indications of problems...

Before i go and spunk £100+ on a motobat or Oddesy

Any thing else that could be the cause of this battery problem?


I was thinking of hooking up a meter and seeing what current drain is comming off the battery..


Would the new LED Lamps be causing it?

As I needed the bike I charged my batt overnight and put the old H7 bulbs back in for the time being
all is now well again (and my battery is only 6 months old)

More investigations to come as it must be LED connected !

Get your meter on it. Only way to tell for sure.

Mine does that sometimes if I try to start it before it's gone through the check sequence

Came out this evening,

Pressed the tit, and away it went...

ran home fine ...


I'm going to put the gs911 on it now, then the meter, then the optimate

battery's lol

GS911 run and falults as follows

ABS - no shit sherlock

Headlamp main beam - open circuit
Headlamp dipped beam - open circuit
Sidelight - open circuit

Battery voltage reported as 13.01 volts

Popped the multi on for drain check

Voltage 12.83 after powering off, picked back up to 12.84 left monitoring for 25 minutes dropped to 12.81

Ive put the optimate on it , it was reporting 13.23 - will leave for a few hours to give a boost ..


Strange!!!

Need to measure the current drain with everything off.
Voltage alone gives little info.

You disconnect the neg lead to the battery - set your meter to 10 amp range and put it in series between the battery neg and the neg lead.

Search YouTube for parasitic draw and there are videos showing how
