1982 F2 Z650 Project

In the 80's a few of us at work had bikes. Micky had the z650 it always looked good and sounded mean. It looked a proper bike against my Honda Cb250r.

That is easily the best z650 I've seen. Congratulations.

Cheers steveC :beerjug: You wait for the finished photos. She's an absolute beauty;)

That looks beautiful, the z650 is one of my favourite bikes ever and in the best colour too

Nearly

OK So we are nearly there. All done and back together but just a little fine tuning required. There is an intermittent fault which results in it running poorly that we have now narrowed down to a faulty pickup point or the ignitor (or at least that's what we think!!) So ordered a S Dyna ignition kit that will bypass this to hopefully sort the problem out. Here's a few photos but once she's running I will try and get some quality photos and a video of her running. She is a thing of beauty to look at in the flesh and she sounds awesome

looks really nice. I bought a new one in 1978 from Daytona m/c in Ruislip. It was a Z650C. silver/grey metallic. loved that bike, kept it 3 years and traded it in for a Z1000ST. bloody hated the thing. kept it 3 months,

OK so Dyna S Ignition Kit fitted and away she goes:D Running like a Swiss Watch and sounding awesome. So photos to follow of the completed bike. Now to sort out insurance which I have had a quote of £131 for a guaranteed value of £6500 which I didn't think was bad:beerjug:

Good work. Excellent, in fact. It would be great if you could post a video of it running :thumb2

I've really enjoyed following this one; it is what is best about this site. The end result is fantastic and well worth the effort. Thanks for taking the time to post it up along with the photos.

Yabber dabber!....that is one fine looking machine.

A good choice of green very sympathetic to the age of the bike whilst adhering to the law of green machine.

MOTed

Well finally took the Z650 for it's MOT today. As it's virtually a new bike:D passed with flying colours. So now to put a few hundred miles through it's tyres during these glorious sunny days. Will try and get some nice pics up whilst out on my travels:beerjug:

Would post a video of it running as it sounds sweet but not I.T. literate as it keeps telling me its not a valid file. No I have no idea of how to convert it. It's taken ages for me to learn how to get the pics up the right way:thumb

Looks great. We used to run Kawasaki Exeter back in the early 80’s, I polished a few of those before the Saturday pickup.

Nice.

It passed with that no.plate?

I have used the testing centre for more years than I can remember. Yes not really legal but come on it’s not hurting anyone and looks good don’t you agree. I have a proper one as well but looks naff

I wasn't being critical, just curious.

I used to have to re-fit the yellow plate on my 90's Enfield for testing as my MOT centre, who Ive used for decades, are a right bunch of you know whats......

Seriously?? That's 3 points and a £60 fine over here and if its some oik looking to score points on detections you will get nailed for fraud or attempting to pervert the course of justice or some other schite

You are absolutely right of course! What harm does it do? Sadly Common sense passed away with the precious PC brigade!

Good luck with it

I think you can actually have a 3 line plate on that bike (for show purposes only of course :green gri ) See if they will add BSau145a at the very bottom right side just to keep it original, don't cha know? :rob

Points defo not here on mainland Uk. Unless I have missed a change in the law. Fine not so sure but defo a producer at your local nick if pulled. To be honest police presence has declined from what it was for various reasons on normal days. Obviously increasing on days when there is something going on which is when I tend to stay off the bikes. I had a black and silver plate on my R90 from new for a couple of years with no issues but then maybe I’ve just been lucky.

Out and about.

Lovely day for its first real outing. It is a great bike to ride. Lovely smooth power and just fun to ride. I’m a happy man and at times I thought why did I start this! But yep it was worth it and I’m pleased I done it. Not sure I would do another though

Looks a real credit to you that, enjoy bedding in those tyres.
