I have a 2003 1150GS that runs great 98% of the time. It has recently started to occasionally miss a beat when idling, sometimes causing it to stall. Also developed occasional backfire when on over run at slow speeds.
I have changed plugs recently but this has not cured it.
Any bright ideas?

The most common fault If it's a twin spark engine is the main spark plug coil sticks.

Hi Neil,
Have you ever found an alternative stick coil for fitment in 2-spark boxers other than the OEM or Beru ones that cost half an arm and a leg ?
ALAN in s.e. Spain

looks like you are correct in your diagnosis. Thanks!
Both coils look in poor condition, particularly the left side which looks corroded and also seems to have oil leaking onto it from somewhere

Oil more than likely leaking from the rocker cover inner gasket. It is a circular rubber gasket that fits over the end of the coil stick tunnel between the rocker cover and cylinder head. Cheap fix.

External appearance is not always a sign of internal failure. Don't bin the old ones until you're 100% certain they're at fault.
