I have a 1600GT without the radio fitted so I use my phone for music. The phone is mounted between the handlebars. Trouble is, trying to pause, turn off of go back or forward I couldn't use the buttons on the phone with gloves on. The button on the phone is tiny too.
I've found a solution. iPhone 7 phones don't have a ear piece socket, music is Bluetoothed to them. Griffin do a Bluetooth adapter that you can connect to your earphones, in my case, the cable that would have gone between the phone and my
Starcom.
You can put your phone anywhere on the bike and music is piped from your phone, I've an S6, to your helmet speakers . It connects easily, last 6 hours but you can power it from the bike.
£18 from Argos.

I would think it would work with other comms set ups as long as it connects with a 3.5 jack plug.

Hope it's been a help to someone.
