We have a day and a half in Ypres in a few weeks, which is an area I haven't been to previously. Does anyone have any Garmin routes they would be willing to share which take in some of the battlefield sights. Thanks in advance

Flippin heck Wapping you are mellowing!
No references to bods and research and a good beasting, just a quality link to an appropriate website.
Brilliant just what folk are after.

Seriously, give it a go. You can do it. Not least you'll see what you want to see and who knows, it may just be something nobody else has.

It's not a huge area and you can read bits as you trundle through the internet whilst you create your itinerary.

Cheers Ill trawl through it.
Thought Id be a bit lazy & plagiarise as I don't have much time to do the research, with a lot of other stuff on the go at present.

Scotboxer is yer man....a fount of knowledge and keen to share.....if he doesn't pop in here PM him.

I'm free! I should have a few routes and notes on the wheezy old laptop. PM me an email and I'll send an itinerary on.

Just got back from 5 days in Ypers town centre, a beautiful place, I've been a number of times and enjoyed everyone of them, if I was there for a day or so I'd opt for a visit to Sanctuary wood (a must) 2-3 hours visit, Hooge crater 2-3 hours, Tyne cot 2 hours, Langemark German cemetery a good hour, Hill 60 2 hours, so easy to fill your time, we had 5 days, nowhere near enough, this time I concentrated on visiting as many graves as possible of soldiers 'shot at dawn' the biggest concentration of these (7, 2 buried side by side) are buried at Perth (China wall) cemetery a couple of miles outside Ypers on the road to Sanctuary wood. Beer is very expensive over there so is food, we drank a beer called 'Duvel' 8.5% @ up to 5 euros for a small beer, which equates to around £9 a pint!! We had to go out early as the weather was unusually hot up to 33c....Mental.

We stayed at the Hotel O which is a military themed hotel, about 5 mins walk from Menim Gate. Really good & slightly surreal.

On an old laptop I might have the Mapsource route out from Ypres of a very basic UKGSer's day Wander out from Ypres, several years ago. I'll see if I can find it.

I am out all day today and am busy tomorrow (Monday) but I'll give it a go ASAP.

Seriously, I'd invest EUR 6 in the site I've linked to maps, they'll probably be here in a day or two. Similarly, the Holts' book would drop on your mat very quickly.

Dump the m'bikes and hire a pedal bike. The local tourist office has a very good circular tour of Ypres that is about 36kms long and picks up most of the sites to see. Indeed, there is even a car drivers version of the route. The map costs about 2 Euro in the Tourist Office

Thanks for the replies gents. Much appreciated.

The app is a bit clunky but eventually you can guess how it works.

If it was the wander I joined you on, I have uploaded the routes to my dropbox folder. Help yourselves all https://www.dropbox.com/sh/usx8qqes6hsbi2i/AABmw4XAthK8cXcJYbuQAKSza?dl=0

You really have to go - especially when the sun shines. You will never be so moved and the GS is the ideal bike for the roads
