Flappy Valve - replacement link pipe

Did you ever sort it? and are you making a few to sell on? ( none of your pics show BTW)

Or do I need to get a gucci one from motor works :)

I've freed mine off twice and getting bored with it

Hi Diamond GSer - I've disconnected mine and would be up for one if you're making any. Otherwise I'll invest in a Motorworks one.

A piece of stainless exhaust pipe tube from eBay will cost more in postage than material.

by the looks of it a bit 63mm x 70mm long will do it..... I may nip over to the local exhaust place tomorrow and see if they'll cut some to size for me :thumb2

If you can get a 20mm length of the next larger pipe size, you can make a neat backing ring so the final job looks neater.

The pieces of stainless I have are 17mm too short to make a full size link pipe. I'm able to make them out of EN31 or ST52 but neither are corrosion resistant and would need to be treated to make them so.

Flappy valve now consigned to the shelf . it's still working but creaky and stiff.

Got a 70mm length of stainless and a 20mm wide collar that fits over it cut at a local exhaust place for £5

flappy valve and associated gubbins removed . Thanks to Zorro for the pics :thumb

Good call on the 20mm collar Bendy

Only thing I found testing was the fit of the 63mm replacement length of pipe, an extremely tight fit , but it went in .. ooeer missus :D

This place is worth its weight in gold

The NN link pipe is over-priced at £36 posted but I have no regrets fitting it just to be shot of the flappy valve.

I can't detect much difference in noise, performance or fuel consumption though (the engine seems a little bit less strangled around 4/5000 rpm but that could well be my imagination.)

At least there is nothing to stick now and no more maintenance jobs freeing it so I suppose that alone makes it worth doing !

Drop your old valve (minus cable pulley ;)) into a jar of diesel oil. That will keep the bearings free-moving so you can put the whole lot back and working when you sell the bike

:clap:clap:clap old dog and new tricks Bryn :D

As always Jim :friday

Done that... can't see any reason for putting it back on... but if it frees it up it can be added to the box of goodies that go with the bike in the unlikely event I sell it :rob

Mine never had a flappy valve but I have all sorts of other bits to put back when I don't get around to selling it. ;)

Read this post with interest, as mine is seized, end can is off, short term going to disconnect cables to get me away. Will look to Motorworks link pipe over the winter.
I can't see your photos which I'd like to have done even your dog, I am a bit of a biff when it comes to computer tech, how do I access them?

All you need is a short length of stainless exhaust tube. You can get it on eBay for a fraction of what Wunderlich want.
The valve motor is under the seat. Just unbolt and unplug the wiring.

On a 1250?

Will this operation work the same an the new 1250 does anyone know ?

Was it the ESE-BM1 George?
