Hi folks,

Today my 800 started doing a weird thing. Riding along in any gear, going slow enough in 50kph zones, and the revs would get stuck at around 2400rpm. Nothing happening with the throttle at all. Bike is still running, just not able to accelerate. Dash display stays on and no lights come on or anything.

Then one of two things would happen - either I could bring her back to life by pulling in the clutch, revving the bollocks out of it, and dropping the clutch, or I could shift down a gear and get the higher revs to bring her back to life. Or I would simply have to pull in, shift to neutral, ignition off and on again, and she'd start up no bother.

Seems electrical to me but I dunno. It was hot today, combined with slow riding, but the temp gauge never showed anything above bang in the middle. I'd very much appreciate your opinions, or ideas about where to start. I don't seem to have a kickstand switch - the bike starts no problem with stand up or down.

Thanks,
Alex

Here are two video from the same guy of exactly what happens to me, looks like the bike runs out of fuel:

Some further info:
After stalling, while coasting with clutch pulled in and still in gear, the starter button will crank the engine but no chance it will fire. When I pull in, switch to neutral, ignition off and on, it will fire first tip of the button.

- My sidestand switch has been bypassed by previous owner, might be acting up but looks OK. Need to test it with a friend's GS911 to see if it reads 'Retracted' at all times
- Considering a £20 punt on a replacement fuel pump like this, just to see if it's the problem. Or would you folks suggest it's an absolute waste of money? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/262224935868
- Considering buying a pair of used coil sticks off the 'bay
- I will reset the throttle position sensor with the 5 cycles of open/closed procedure
- I will check to see if the fuel cap breather is clogged
- Is there a test I can perform on the injectors? Given that with an ignition off/on cycle, the bike fires up perfectly every time, this seems an unlikely cause?

Cheers :)
