I would be the first to admit I find the various forms of BMW ABS brakes confusing.....I'd love to see a thread that simply explained the differences between the various types....

That said, the Haynes manual suggests that bleeding the ABS brakes on my 2011 R1200R MU is a very simple affair, the only significant departure from traditional brake bleeding being the need to bleed the master cylinder separately.

Being a bit wary where ABS is concerned.....can anyone with knowledge of the ABS from 2010 onwards confirm that is correct.....I recall the 1150 being a bit of a mare to do and I managed to avoid doing it myself on my subsequent 1200s.

Also, my bike has the sponge insert in the master cylinder which is deleted from 2012......can I simply dispense with it?

Mick.

I believe the procedure is to bleed the brakes in the normal way, then use a gs911 to bleed the abs unit, then re-bleed the brake lines again.
The complexity with the 1150 was with the servo units.
The sponge insert stops brake fluid squirting out when bleeding the brakes.
