Great stuff Ash, I do like a project thread.
It will be a nice road bike when refurbished.
I always start a bike project with loads of Aldi,s finest GT85 and stiff pound shop brushes to clear away all the accumulated crap.
Very satisfying seeing the result.
Also pound shop nail varnish remover (acetone) good for shifting stubborn crud.

Never thought of pound shop nail Polish remover..
Thanks Pat..

GT85,a gallon of Gunk, cheap Artists paint brushs via eBay ( for touching up )
All the family's old clothes ( rags), all there old news paper's & cardboard to cover the bike lift...

And so many hours trying to get bits off / on with my u/s body especially my hands wrists.

Trying to get the main stand washers & springs on was a reet bitch yesterday evening ..

But so worth all the aches & pains, it's also good for the soul & realistically that not expensive.

Biggest cost will be for the bespoke throttle cables made by Venhill @ £63...

I did wonder just how the hell you did that - i've enough trouble with two good hands!

cables;
my throttle is a short cable, into a junction box and two cables from there (under tank) to carbs.
Standard fitting. :nenau
EDIT: definitely standard - i got mine from Motomecca - just told them it was for the Cali 3 Fully Faired (maybe THAT'S the difference / longer cable? with the daft 1 metre wide handlebars)
fwiw - i use scooter brake cables for the clutch on my Cali 3. big eff off nipple at handlebar end / solderless nipple at the gearbox end.
Way cheaper than standard and handy for adjustment and fitting. Been using the same outer now for about ten years!

Brilliant job, and good to see a quirky Guzzi (aren't they all?) being brought back to life :thumb2 :clap :beerjug:

Trouble with mine Og is it's got suzuki switchgear, so different end at handlebars, intern making it an odd length.
I looked at all guzzi suppliers I knew & nobody supplied mine at the correct length & with the correct end to fit the suzuki twist grip.
Hence bespoke Venhill cables, I don't think £63 was bad including next day delivery.
And wouldn't want cheaply made cables snapping God knows where....

Rear wheel out, must say the CML3 bike lift with the pull out panel is excellent.
Superb paint quality for a 28 yr old bike..

Fairing damage repair time....
First time I have ever tried this.
3 different colours ranging from semi dark metallic Grey to light silver metallic & then a darker metallic Grey FFS.... :(

I had 3 old tins of spray paint.
Some old lids for mixing colour.
A few cheapo artists paint brushes from eBay @ £1.99 for 15.
Some panel wipes from Halfrauds.

The worse panel.
Front panel, really bad we're the stones / grime has been frown against the fairing over 35k miles & 28 years...

I did all this with tiny brushes after mixing in red pepper pot lid.
(as in picture in post b4 this one )

Blending the colour as I went.
Adding silver metallic first then Black to get the dark grey metallic colour needed. :blast

A right faff of a job.
But happy with the results for a cost of about 30p all in... :)

Another thing to look at is the fairing goes dark/light/dark metallic with smoke effect, like the BMW Airhead fairings, which made it much harder to paint... :(

Oh
And some sort of Black paint or body protection compound a bit like " Shultz body automotive underseal "

Which was a reet bitch to get off.... :tears :tears

Suzuki: :blast you did say.
You're dead right about cables.
The throttle is the one cable i'm fussy about - i could bodge something for the clutch or choke, but i'd be fecked if i broke a throttle cable god knows where!
Keep going Ash - it's looking good. :)

I use a cheap ratchet strap attached to the end if the spring with a cable tie or S hook. Tie the strap to the back of the bike and pull the spring.

New venhill ( Stainless inners) throttle cables arrived.

Great service they state 7 - 10 days turnaround & mine were ready in 8 including a w/end.
Bear in mind these are one off bespoke cables, not of the shelf jobbies.

And delivered back UPS next day delivery..
