My R100GS tale of woe

Looked trough the posts. To anybody a striped and rebuilt engine means that some kind of refurbishment has taken place. This falls well below any meaningful interpretation of rebuild. JJH

I would like to hear what the seller has to say, but this is the first time I have known something like this happen on here, EBay maybe, but not on here ......... but again I have only just come back to the forum after an absence of 7 years

airhead GS prices seem crazy -

Neil, I was told who did the engine rebuild and this is taken from their website:

BMW SERVICING

Our BMW Servicing specialist was formally trained by BMW in Germany. This way you are assured of the best servicing and a service unparalleled !!!

Yes it say that on thier website NOW (i know who they are), but who knows what they were doing back in the day when they were supposed to have done yours - if inded they ever even saw it........

And??
You score the Nicasil barrels and bend both inlet valves, what have you learnt from the exercise?
Oh ,yes the engine turns:blast

Is Nicasil plating still stupidly expensive?

I had a Honda NSR with Nicasil barrel, cost almost as much as the bike for a replacement barrel!

Interesting information regarding the tank, I did look at the one at Touratech HQ recently, but neglected to take a picture. I wasn't aware it was known as the Lego bike. Would be interested to know the history of it, if anyone knows.

These are the markings on my tank, it does have a locking cap and no vent pipe, unlike yours Bill.

OK using the powers of the net ..

If it refers to the tank material , HPN is an additive used in Polyprop to prevent shrinkage and crystalisation effects

Careful what you say about the business, you don't know exactly what they were asked to do, you need to see the invoice for the work allegedly done.

Google that exact phrase and it brings up the website in question. on the bright side, it's going to be great when it's done.

Errrr, no.......it isnt refering to the tank material...........!!

Just as a side note.
The company in question let that engineer leave a good number of years ago, when his wife fell ill with cancer.
He hasn't been there for at least 7 or 8 years

one of the major advantages of "Airheads" is that they are simple and straightforward to service and not difficult to fix

We still have not heard what the "seller" has to say!!

This thread is quite an interesting read, I'm not quite sure how I feel about claiming back off the seller though.
You paid over the odds for a vehicle (non runner in this case) and the seller lied, you'll not be the first or last.

We should always buy with our eyes, ears and heads but that isn't always the case. I'm a sucker for a 'tidier upper' and feel sorry for bikes that aren't too far gone but need a bit of tlc but a non runner is just that, something that doesn't and probably can't run.
If it was just a case of 'needs a battery and fresh petrol' then you've got to ask why the seller hasn't given it a battery and fresh petrol!

Hats off to you for posting this though as a bit of a stark reminder to us all and hats off to you for making it good again.
I hope all goes well and you enjoy the new steed in due course.

It is fine to say that but the seller is a member of this Forum

Quite agree with ^^ . You do have to ask yourself why, if it only needs a new battery, the seller hadn't done that and sold the bike for more.

Ahhh, I missed that bit, cheers. It kind of changes things a bit.

I'm not sure why it should. There seems to be a bit of a doe-eyed perception that everyone on here is an all round good egg and can be trusted implicitly. There have been plenty of rip off merchants on here. Painful to admit that people with a perceived common interest could be scumbags maybe but I for one would be just as careful buying from here as Ebay (unless I knew them obviously).

I don't agree. I've bought a few things on here and have had very few problems 1 I think that was resolved with a pm. I find people on here very honest and I would have no problem buying of anyone here on their word. I'd have no problem hanging them out to dry if someone tried to do me. JJH

I agree - plenty of trades in the past - both ways - never a problem
