post notifications

Hi does the site inform you by email when somebody puts a new post on or replies to one that you have put on. why do I ask ?
when I have posted there seems to be a fairly rapid response. I've tried looking on the settings/profile/notifications but not been able to see anything that would do this or as usual am I missing a link??
