The GS: the best complete package there is

I'd have the Caponord or a Multistrada, just so I could find it in the carpark.

I often wonder if the GS sells because it's the best bike or is it still thriving on the C&E bandwagon.

Don't really know what I want from my perfect bike but it certainly wouldn't be the same one as everyone else.

Some of us discovered the GS in the mid 90's, well before the C&E escapade

In fact Touratech weren't even in business and Winderlich were selling parts only for Yam XT500's

Metal panniers hadn't been thought of and there were not many accessories for a GS - we just rode them, knowing they were quirky and different, but a bloody good all rounder

I have no interest in the latest type of GS or the new breed of rider type to the GS

I'm sure I have a photo of you, with an "I love Ewan and Charlie" T-shirt on.................. :D

Al ;)

Mine's a 1989 airhead which we bought for a trip to South Africa (1991/2). No metal panniers were available so I made some.

We still do about 5-10k miles a year on it. I wonder how many 2017 GSes will still be in regular use in 2045!

Spot on - the new ones are already having issue

'New' GS riders i.e. anyone after the demise of the 1150.

The only people who loathe them more than other marque's riders are fellow bimmeristas:D

Such is life.

Funny old world, isn't it?

Not sure that’s true . But all the LC GSs will be going back after 2 years because nobody trusts them out of warranty !
Ooh, you can take them back? That's handy! :D
One question though: what did they do with all the 13 to 15 bikes that have already gone back? There must be thousands! (I could have sworn I saw a 13 plate one the other day - poor deluded fool must not have read this site I guess).

Extended warranties , dear boy !

+1 for the GS being the best all round bike, the sales figures prove it.

No they don't , the sales figures just prove they are more popular and there can be lots of reasons for that. In quite recent memory a CBR would've topped sales chart does that make them a better all round bike than a GS? In much more recent memory the AT outsold the GS until they ran out of stock . Was it then , briefly , a better all round bike than GS?

Your logic above is in question but I don't disagree that it is one of the best all round bikes money can buy and I'd be happy to have one if I could afford to replace it every two years.

Called in at Teasdales in Thirsk yesterday to pic up some bits for my recently acquired Guzzi Stelvio. They're dealers for, Moto Guzzi...Aprillia...KTM...and Norton (bloody gorgeous) anyway, having a look around I noticed a lot of GS's. Talking to one of the senior staff (no names mentioned) they currently have 8 used GS's and he was saying he is now unable to take any GS's in part ex unless he can pass them off in the trade, which he was saying was difficult as no one want to give reasonable money for them out of warrenty.
