Done a few mods over the last few days to my GS LC.. Fitted a new 17" Front Wheel from an LC 'R' along with a wider rear from an RT along with a 180/55/17 Rear Tyre
The 17" front wheel conversion needed different spacers for the spindle also needed spacers for the brake calipers for them to fit, brackets where made to lower the front fender and inch, The Rear Wheel slotted straight in but does have an offset of about 14mm to the right, The Wheel can be machined so that its within 2-3mm offset , but the offset has very little effect on handling, put the Cruise on at 70mph, hands off bars it rides normal, tracking straight
I also removed the ESA Suspension units front and rear and replaced with Manual Ohlins TTX to finish the job
Hows it ride? All i can say is as soon as i sat on it before i rode it was complexly different, beautifully smooth balanced front and rear units, on the Road for the first time it feels a hell of a lot quicker on the steering which i like a lot, the ride quality is transformed with the Ohlins TTX very plush with no harshness at all, The ABS works as normal with the 17" wheel

Looks absolutely awesome, but I must admit, if I was thinking of going down that road, it would be the S1000XR.

Looks really nice Steve, cannot understand why BMW never made the 17" wheels an option like the hp enduro.

Like the idea of a RT rear wheel, did that just slot in and take a 180 ? No isssues rubbing on anything ? Bike looks the biz.

Looks good, Steve.:thumb

A smaller screen & removal of the pillion grab rails would finish that off a treat.:green gri

I'm amazed it handles so well with a misaligned rear and the front end dropped down. I thought it'd be a twitchy as hell. Looks good.

cheers..the best things i like about the GS is the telelever suspension and the shaft drive and setup properly its unbeatable ;)

its crazy i know! i will machine the hub if i dont go for a 6" wide hub to take a 190 rear.. the ride height is lowered at the rear as well with the 55 rear tyre, the side stand is still near as the same angle before the conversion so its not altered the ride height significantly ..done a 200mile ride today to see young Ross in action at Cadwell Park, it is VERY different, it steers sooo quick, if your a sporty type rider you will love it ..been chasing my mate on his RR well into 3 figures with no issues, i dont know how much the Ohlins makes life a bit easier tho, ive not messed with settings yet, just put the shocks on middle settings as a base setting but it recommends 20 clicks of rebound on the front shock and its at 11 clicks..the thing about quality shocks is you can tell a difference with one or two clicks

What about using a k1200s rear hoop 6" wide...off set will probably be about 10mm

Just picked this up, along with a new swinging arm from a R1200R LC which should give it no offset, ive got some 200 Rear supercorse Tyre's so might try and squeeze it in

She looks nice. :thumb

Would it be possible to assemble the front forks/calipiers/wheel etc using all stock BMW parts to avoid needing the extra spacers on the front calliper mounting bolts and wheel spindle if cost wasn’t an option?

Something surprised me between LC models. I bought a Puig hugger for my GS. After fitting, I found it fouled the Mudsling. I wanted the Mudsling more than the hugger, so the hugger came off again. We fitted it to a mate's R1200R LC. But clearly the wheel offset is different to the GS, as the centre lines of the hugger and tyre were about 1cm out!

The Forks from the R are different, no Telelever, you can get by doing without the spacers by shaving a couple of mm from the underside of the Caliper, im ordering these GP4 RX Brembo Calipers (Overkill but so cool ) and they fit without the washers
