I have an antique computer that needs a little updating. Has anyone any experience of the many websites that offer Windows 7 serial numbers for not much money?. There's lots of them with very little to choose between them. I need a 32-bit version of Win 7 Home Premium or better. Downloading the install media from Microsoft at https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows7 is easy enough with a valid serial number.

If windowsn7 will run so will windows 10

True, but I can't do an in-place upgrade to Windows 10 from Vista. Installing from cold would work but then I'd have to deactivate, reinstall and reactivate a lot of Adobe utilities. In-place upgrade to Win7 SP1 then to Win 10 does work. Why I can't go directly is one of life's mysteries.

Consider cloning the old hard drive before you start. Then at least you have the stuff secure when it goes titsup.
Even easier fit a new hard drive then you still have the old one as a system backup.
Discs are cheap theses days.
